Very easy to understand, practical steps to improve productivity. I've already implemented some and have seen a positive difference.

I downloaded this book to my iPad a week ago, then promptly lost my iPad amidst the paperwork and files on my desk. I finally found myself with some down time to read, so I went looking though the piles everywhere to find my iPad. Once I found it, I cleared all the clutter from the comfy chair in my office, and sat down to read.Day 1: Stop Letting Clutter Accumulate in Your LifeWow! I read the chapter, then spent the next 45 minutes getting my office in order. I can tell you, from firsthand experience, the difference the advice from just that chapter has proven to have made in my life.I also could have stopped right after that chapter and been in a better place for having read just that. However, I continued and finished the book in less than an hour (one of the reasons I LOVE Damon's books!). Fortunately, I was able to find a few more great new ideas as well as a few reminders of things I know I should be doing, but needed the kick in the pants to start. If you are looking for quick, actionable advice that you can use TODAY to make a difference in your life TODAY, get this book!

In Volume II of his “The 30-day Productivity Plan”, Damon sets out a further thirty exhortations to avoid certain actions and mentalities which cripple productivity. The first volume was published two years ago in 2016 and while some of the advice in Volume II may seem repetitive and possibly recycled from Volume I (more on that later), there are nonetheless enough cogent tips to kickstart the quest of anyone enthusiastic about self-improvement.The format of Volume II follows that of Volume I in the form of a daily snippet of no more than six pages (in the print book version) spanning a total of thirty days with each advice presented in its own chapter. This user-friendly structure allows anyone to pick up the book and peruse a “Daily Bread”-style advice in less than five minutes, true to its avowed goal of keeping it highly accessible. In fact, the author is a master of brevity with each chapter comprising an easily digestible 3-part format: a general introduction to the negative phenomenon, the harmful effects of said behavior and a suggested 4- to 8-part action plan to curb the offending habit. One or two supporting academic research are referenced occasionally in each chapter.Since there are thirty action plans, I suggest that the potential reader skim through the freely available table of contents to check their relevance to one’s own situation. Admittedly, not all may apply and if you are an avid reader and practitioner of self-improvement literature, you may have already internalized some if not most of the suggestions contained herein. For instance, I did not find the advice for five days particularly relevant to my circumstances but found ten chapters sapient and the remaining fifteen moderately apropos. That said, some of the advice Damon listed could be vastly expanded upon and readers may find their treatment here cursory. Two of such areas come to mind: goal-setting and to-do lists. These are mentioned time and again in many chapters, implying that the related multifarious negativities can be efficaciously dealt with by both methods, thus suggesting that both deserve a more substantial treatment than what is on offer here. Indeed, Damon has authored tomes teaching goal-setting and to-do lists, the former in 2018 and the latter in 2016 (his other works are listed in the first and last few pages). In a similar vein, the chapter on time-chunking is dismally short but the topic has been expounded at length by Damon in a standalone book in 2017. In a previous review of one of his books, I commented that it may be appropriate to cite such connections to the author’s other works but I empathize with him that such measures may come across as a hard-sell tactic. My chief reservation with Volume II is that some of the proffered advice also appear in Volume I albeit phrased differently, which may put off customers who have read the latter (I have not, so this is not a problem for me but I consulted Volume I’s table of contents for this point). More obvious instances include the advice regarding the checking of email (Volume I Day 1 vs. Volume II Day 7), working with goals in mind (Volume I Day 27 vs. Volume II Day 24; in Volume I these are referred to as “concrete” goals and in this volume as “clearly-defined” goals) and multitasking (Volume I Day 16 vs. Volume II Day 22). More discerning readers perusing the book punctiliously may find other advice cutting across both volumes. This is not necessarily a negative point because reiteration can be effective in providing timely reminders for the aspiring productivity practitioner who have lapsed or forgotten the instructions and also many readers like myself may not have read Volume I.Another problem concerns a few typo errors I found (e.g. “The busyness of our live [sic] is constant” [p.154]; a more fastidious proofreader may have picked up on these) and an incorrect fact used as an example of language learning. Even though Mandarin is the primary language used in China and is one of its official languages, the lingua franca in Hong Kong is Cantonese, not Mandarin (Hong Kong’s official language is Chinese without specifying which “Chinese”). If the author revises this book in the future, substituting Hong Kong with, say, Beijing will easily remedy this inaccuracy. These minor qualms notwithstanding, I have only approbation for the contents within. One of the commendable points is how the author has kept pace with current trends. For example, Damon has advice addressing our ever-growing “addiction” to newfangled technology. One such chapter is his suggestion to pare down the number of productivity apps and programs we use. In our quest for self-improvement, we can be easily sidetracked into finding the “best” calendar, time management or to-do list software, reading reviews and trialing multitudinous programs while deluding ourselves that, in the name of productivity gains, the time spent is not wasted. Personally I find this advice felicitous: recently, I spent many hours searching for the “perfect” Kanban project management tool (perfectionism is another productivity killer mentioned repeatedly in the book and for which Damon has devoted a book in 2017). By the time I realized my folly, my most productive hours of that day had been wasted. In this respect, the author’s “Law of One” is highly apt and is one of his many innovations presented here.Another is to maintain a “do not do” list. Yes, you read it correctly. It is a list of negative behaviors that damage our productivity. Without going into too much details of what it entails, Damon has truly hit the nail in the head by offering a contrarian suggestion: as much as self-improvement is about doing things (read: to-do list), it is also about not doing certain things (read: do not do list). Indeed, the crux of the two volumes of his “30-day Productivity Plan” series is about arresting deleterious habits and behaviors (each chapter begins with “Stop…”).In brief, I enjoyed Damon’s latest guide tremendously and recommends it unequivocally, especially for the reader who has not yet read Volume I. I am already planning to implement a few of his advice I find most apposite to my present situation. As a closing remark, it appears that the covers of many of the author’s previous books have recently been given aesthetically better makeovers (the older designs look functional but little more). Thus it is bemusing for me to find his latest book here sporting an older design. Undoubtedly this was done to maintain a consistent look-and-feel from Volume I which has not yet been redesigned. In hindsight, perhaps both books can be updated with refreshed covers before this volume is launched for sale.

* I got this book free to write a review, as honest as possible *Not being as productive as you'd like to be is possibly caused by (a lot of) small bad habits, that cumulate and drain your willpower to do the right thing. In this book, you get 30 of those habits, why they affect your productivity and ways to unlearn them or change them into good ones.None of the bad habits described is new. I know them from other books I read. Most of the solutions are not new. However, some I didn't encounter before and helped me look at unlearning my habits from another viewpoint, and that helped! Also, not every habit described or solution offered applies to everyone.I think some chapters refer to the same problem, so one could feel there are only 20, or 25.The reading won't cost you too much time. Possibly you will need a more dedicated book to unlearn some habits - sometimes it is rather shallow. In my opinion, however, this book provides enough content to make it worth reading. What you will gain from that reading is up to you. Not taking action will change nothing. Moreover, the activities described are sometimes really hard - but that is due to unlearn habits is really hard :(

I viewed Damon's latest book through the eyes of a lifetime of wrestling with my own productivity challenges. Some successes. Some failures and frustrations. Some fads and magic-of-the-moment. And many lessons learned, among them that my needs changed over time. My productivity over time changed, and was, at times situationally driven. The author captures a month's worth of daily action plans to halt non-productive habits, procedures and time-energy wasters. All these continually try to penetrate our best defenses. The book is short and to the point. It would be non-productive to be otherwise, would it not?Read it. Apply liberally, as needed for your situation. The success of any book lies in the continuity you give, in the discipline you maintain, in the adaptation to your strengths and weaknesses....and it is very to-the-point!

I am struggling with bad habits and overcoming them.I love this book for its straightforward style and no nonsense approach.you can make your own adventure, mix and match the days or stick to the author's 30 day plan.the feeling after this read was I am much more informed and inspired to tackle my challenges.Sure, no book can take away these challenges just by reading, we have to also apply the wisdom. This book makes it easy to take away information and start acting accordingly.
