The information is outdated; this work needs an update.. The material is a takeoff of Barack Obama's 2008 campaign data, which was visionary at the time, but seems idealized rhetoric in light of the many failures the US has experienced in this area. The devastation in New Orleans post Katrina is heavily referenced; I learned a bit about the FEMA disaster under the Bush Admin, as well within state/ local law enforcement/emergency planning, and I, as a US am ashamed, as we all should be, and outraged, at both the moral and ethical failures and misuse of our tax funds; we need to do better. Unfortunately, there's little to indicate the lessons of Katrina, Deepwater and Iraq invasion have been absorbed; these are the global policy failures of our times. Since Katrina, we've experienced multiple natural climate occurrences w significant recovery costs and material, ecologic and human health implications in US and globally. These are in the news daily, they're just not called "climate effects". A tabulation of those impacts with references re real recovery, FEMA expense, Insurance compensation, personal losses, etc; would be the kind of quantitative assessment that clearly demonstrates the financial unsustainability of the existing fossil fuel dependent economy, and our policy models. These numbers could include big fossil subsidies and the dollar amount big fossil has spent on gas-washing, including legal expenses.. Further, the reissue could offer overview and consideration of the many technologic advances and changing economies since the original work was released, including employment numbers from Germany and Massachusetts. Mention of the policy and implementation methods/technologies other countries, and states within the US, have adopted will seriously put the current US administration to shame, which might spur some reactivity, since US is nothing if not emotionally reactive and highly competitive. Van Jones continues his distinguished career as "green spokesperson". I encourage Van Jones to update this reference to include significant advances as far as research and data, including policy recommendations (federal/state/local) including tax structure, stimulus, and labor numbers, that would help affect the economy he envisions. Examples of favorable state policies and their 'green economy" effect, positive and negative, would provide objective, critical assessment. Germany and China are leading the way in so many aspects of this transition. The US needs a bullet point guide to get us there, as individuals and collectively. This could be it. ;-)

I really enjoyed this book it was an easy read. It showed many examples on how various cities are making efforts to reduce the effects of climate change as well as create green jobs in communities that need them the most. I would have liked to see a final comprehensive summary of the green collar economy showing a timeline, budget, economic benefits, and tons of CO2 or equivalent greenhouse gasses removed.

This book is required reading for my College Black Studies course and I was very impress with the author's depth of knowledge. This book will be added to my home library for sure!

This book has some great ideas. It's a little too partisan. These should not be partisan issues. We are all guilty of the causes of these problems and we need to come together to fix them. Offers little to fix the problems because the real solutions won't win a popularity contest, err, an election.
