I love the twists and turns of Keltic patterns. I find coloring them very relaxing. I generally do not shade anymore as I am an artist myself and if I am to go to that length, I might as well do an original piece. However, I do think these illustrations would lend themselves well to shading. Great fun!

I happened to see the authors Joseph & Michelle Assad on a TV show and thought she sounded like her book would be interesting and it was! She does focus a lot on the power of prayer and in an era where one’s faithfulness sometimes causes ridicule, I did like that she was proud to share her journey of faith. One thing I would like to point out is that it isn’t only Christians who have been persecuted in Muslim countries. Iraq, Iran, Egypt, all had huge, hundred’s of years old thriving Jewish communities in which it’s Jewish citizens have been murdered, persecuted, expelled and decimated by Islam’s “religion of peace”. It seems like it’s difficult to live alongside Muslim extremism no matter what other faith you have.

This was a page turner from the start. A lady from church posted about this book (she went to college with the author) and I decided to sample the book...one chapter in and I hit BUY! And I do not regret it. Michelle and Josephs story is one of faith, courage, tenacity and a host of other amazing qualities that truly forms an incredible story. Thank you Michelle for having the courage to tell your story, the faith that passes all understanding and sharing that with the world!

Incredibly refreshing and inspiring book. It honors those who serve a noble cause, and acknowledges human frailty and inspire courage to stand up and do things you thought were impossible. As someone who served in the government, I think this book will also shed light on the unsung heroes that continue to serve and provide security for the homeland and elsewhere around the world. Even if you're not an avid reader, you will have a hard time putting this book down as it is riveting and tells true stories that will make you want to "get off the X" and do more using the natural gifts we are all born with.

Breaking Cover is in a word fantastic. But one word won’t cut it for the amazing story this book tells. As a man in a male dominated profession I’ve seen women who work really hard to fit in or stand out. A definite balancing act that I imagine can be daunting. However, what I can’t imagine is how a small town girl must feel diving head first into the most secretive world of the CIA’s boys club and making not only a name for herself but breaking down barriers in place from its inception.No spoiler here. Just my opinion saying Breaking Cover is an honest look at a woman’s struggle and fight to success. The book is very well written and easily read. Sometimes I felt I wanted way more detail only to realize that much of the detail I’m used to seeing in novels most assuredly can’t be described in this memoir. This isn’t fiction with flowering romance and Bond type cliche. This is real and refreshing to have a glance behind the curtain to see the efforts and orchestrations required to make this freedom we hold so dear a reality.The book also dramatically illustrates how faith in God and leaping to the rescue of others suffering can bring more fulfillment than most of us can understand. I was moved by such efforts of this person to share a story of heroic love and dedicated skills for the sake of others.I highly recommend Breaking Cover. Take a moment to sneak a peak into the true world of spy games from a woman who thought this could never be where she would be. A woman who not only did it but allowed her faith to guide her along the way.

This book is just amazing, it is fun, it is very interesting. I loved reading about the CIA and how she applied and work there, the missions etc. Then the final mission to rescue persecuted Christians is just unbelievable. She talks about God trough the entire book in a real, personal, practical way. Amazing people and an amazing book.

To make this a more enjoyable read, you should know it is not a super-spy novel, but more of an autobiographical journey, starting from entering the CIA, and how her job and her Christian faith shaped and affected her life after that. Although she is prevented from filling in some details, the events described in the book were very interesting. I also found it inspiring to read about her struggles and failures, and how her faith and perseverance helped her through those difficult times. It is not a very long book, and I highly recommend it!

I have known Michele and Joseph many years - LOVE them. When the book arrived, my 84 year old dad absconded with the book, finally returned it 5-6 days later to tell me he could NOT put it down. “A page-turner” - a “Must-Read!”

You had me on page ONE! Couldn't put this book down. Michele is a clear and concise writer and the information was spellbinding. I feel as though I was right there with her and Joseph. Bravo! SOMEONE has to do a movie...

turned out to be everything I was hoping for when I ordered it. It is a book about poisons and poisonings for the general reader. The fact that it is not burdened with chemical formulae and other details that might interest a chemist, causes it to be both interesting and readable.After leading into his subject in the first 27 pp. Emsley gets to the principal poisons which are mercury, arsenic, antimony lead and thallium. There are at least two chapters on each. In the last chapter we learn about a dozen other poisons which while rarely employed by murderers, can be deadly.All in all, this book kept my attention throughout its length. I was impressed by it and wished it were longer than its 400-odd pages.

I chose this book after reading the Poisoner's Handbook. The Poisoner's Handbook was more informative, truly the story of the beginnings of forensic pathology. Most of this book is the story of actual poisonings, mostly in the U.K., some in U.S. Also explanations of poisonings going back to how Nero came into power in Rome, to Handel and Beethoven's plausible poisonings, resulting in Beethoven's deafness. This book can be read in any order of Chapters, as it tells several 'stories' and not one cohesive 'tale' like the fabulous Poisoners Handbook. This was a very interesting, informative book and I certainly recommend it.

The subject is well researched. The syntax is very British. It was very dry, dry,dry. I read "vomiting" and it's decription as a reaction to almost every possible poison so many times, I thought I would! The "Poisoners Handbook" is much better and easier to read and understand. As a Chemistry teacher, looking for interesting reading, I have to say this book was NOT that interesting. The science was spot on,but not enough to motivate many to plow through this very long and dry reading. I was the only one who finished it in my book discussion group. We're all scientists!

This is a fascinating book. As I read about mercury, I remember seeing a large tube of the mercury ointment that my Grandmother told me was to help heal any scratches or wounds to her skin. I planned to sit back and enjoy a good read about the elements and their effect on our bodies. This book is easy to read. It is not text bookish. As a seasoned, experienced RN, I am learning many new things while I read. It is like actually having fun while I am in class"

Very erudite book. written more from a scientist perspective than the average person. Package arrived promptly and in very good shape.

From the title of my review a portion of the reading audience may be turned off; a combination of CHEMISTRY and HISTORY - not everyones favorite subjects in high school! However, if you enjoyed these subjects then John Emsley has written the book for you! We are acquainted with several "Elements" (although they are all examined as compounds - something I found to be a little misleading - Arsenic Trioxide, Lead Oxide, Antimony Sulphide, Metheyl Mercury are the compounds and not singular elements) and how they can do us harm. We are told of each elements colourful history, its discovery and how it had been used in some very bad deeds. This is clearly the most entertaining part - Emsley wirtes as if he was a Jr. version of Sherlock Holmes in exploring the facts of the case. Each murder is fully detailed with the fate of the poisoner given as the concluion. I was a little hesitant about giving 5 stars - for a book on murder by poison I had hoped that cyanide would be covered. However, under the context of "The ELEMENTS of murder" cyanide is never mentioned. I am puzzled because every murder described is not by the raw element, but by a compound of the element. Regardless, to cyanides exclusion, I can still highly recommend "The Elements of Murder: A History of Poison to all history and chemistry fans.

John Emsley walks the fine line between science and crime writing here. Some have complained that the book is too scientific and does not focus enough on the crimes committed with various poisonous elements, but how can the author offer a comprehensive history of poisons without explaining their composition, history and effects?The book collects quite a bit of juicy information. For example, it tells us just about everything we'd want to know about lead, how it caused gout in the 1800s, how it probably poisoned the aristocracy of Rome AND Vincent van Gogh, and why it was so popular in paint.I enjoyed the whole book and found information there that is difficult to find elsewhere.

I really didn't have an interest in poison until I heard Mr. Emsley on the radio. This book has a lot of history in it and being a history buff I found it really enjoyable. I've learned a great deal about the subject and was really suprised to find how much we are actually exposed to poisons on a daily basis. I was worried that perhaps this may be a rather dry book, but let me assure you it isn't. I found it very entertaing and would recommed it to anyone who has an interest in history or reading about true crime. Or even if you just want to make your boyfriend nervous!

Like a lot of "these kind" of books, you can get the gist of this in a page or two .. Basically, the "Matthew Effect" that draws all of the US investment money to centers like Silicon Valley, Cambridge etc, is leaving multitudes of other entrepreneurs behind, skewing the nature of tech progress in the US (for the worse) and, ultimately, diminishing the importance of the US as a global tech leader.I'll concede that this is an insightful idea, and I wanted to be drawn in and inspired. Unfortunately, the book doesn't seem to make great use of the 273 pages it occupies. There a lot of pictures of Steve Case with various powerful people, and I presume that the book manages to somehow spin these trips down memory lane into something faintly relevant to the main thesis, but there was an element of self aggrandizement, ill concealed by a fig-leaf of false modesty, the net effect of which was somewhat off-putting. The book just wasn't engaging enough in other ways to compensate. It didn't take too long before I just didn't want to bother with the chore of reading it further.

Steve begins the "Third Wave" with a nod to Alvin Toffler's book of the same name, which Steve read early in his career. Toffler's Third Wave described how the Information Revolution would transform society similarly to the Industrial Revolution and the Agricultural Revolution before. (In a nice nod to history, Toffler wrote a blurb at the beginning of this book). What's remarkable about this book is not that Steve Case predicts THAT the Internet will transform our lives in ways we haven't seen, but in great detail, he outlines HOW.Steve Case, the founder of AOL who was responsible for the first Internet experience of many people (including me and probably many folks reading this review), outlines his vision of "The Third Wave" of the Internet. The First Wave was what AOL and others did in the 1990s--just getting people online. The Second Wave, the Wave of Google, Facebook, Twitter, and more, created a flurry of people using the Internet to communicate and share information--but when you think about it, Steve says, the Internet has barely begun to transform the way we live our everyday lives. Our food, health care, education, and energy systems are pretty much the same as they were before the Internet--with slightly better information-sharing and communication. In the Third Wave, the Internet will integrate into everything we do.As Steve begins to predict how, he artfully and entertainingly outlines his lessons learned from AOL--successes and failures--as he sees many parallels between the Third Wave and the First Wave (when he and others built AOL). The stories still hold very real applications to entrepreneurs today. I completed the Audio book during commute time and loved it so much that I wanted to have a physical book on my bookshelf. It is not as literally brilliant as the old Third Wave by Alvin Toffler but the reason Steve Case wrote this book was because of the Toffler's book! If you want to know the trend this world is heading in terms of technology, you want to read this book, especially true for those people who want to be successful in tech business.

I am so glad I found this book, on a list on the best summer reading books for business. I've followed Steve and Jean Case with their Foundation and Be Fearless Campaigns and when I read "Third Wave" I was energized, empowered and confident I will be a leader that impacts educational reform in the next 5-10 years. Thank goodness for this roadmap! Thank you for the tips, diagrams, stories, ideas, warnings, thoughts and steps that you can foresee leaders of this wave will need to take. Steve Case should be applauded for a job well done with 'The Third Wave', I enjoyed this book very much, it has a lot to offer and is entertaining.Creating value in the world, but specifically in our country, needs to be talked about, examples given, advice gleaned and then get up and get moving. More than anything we all need to be reminded that lowering the bar only allows others to just "fall over it"! It is this kind of attitude that now permeates our society, participation is ok, average is ok and doing the minimum is accepted. We all need a kick in the butt sometimes and a dose of humble pie, hard work, never giving up and giving to others is the key to our country and future successes.With entitlement programs, insurance issues, and the aging of America on top of us all it will take the attitude Steve talks about clearly, guts, glory and seeing into the future.
