There are so many versions of Mother Goose rhymes out there, but this one is truly my favorite. It's hard for me to explain why, exactly. It has so many of the familiar rhymes and several I had never heard when I was little. My 3 and 4 year-old boys love this book, as did my older children when they were small. The illustrations are kind of...quirky... but they reflect the period and place from which the rhymes originated, which is probably why I like this book over other versions I have seen. The illustrations are not cartoon-like nor "dumbed-down" which is something I look for when choosing picture books for my kids. There's an index in the front so you can flip to your favorites, which is helpful. There are a few rhymes I just flat-out don't like (one about the goose who grabbed a man by his left leg and threw him down the stairs) so I just skip those -- my kids have never known I do that.I give it a 5 star rating because this version appears to have all of the rhymes, interesting illustrations, an index, and my kids love it - oh and it's hardbound and has held up well, which is good for a book that is read often!

My siser bought this book for my first-born son, remembering our own love of "Mother Goose". When he grew up and began his family we to our great delight we found the same book for his children. Now he has a new grandson (great-grand, for me) so I set out to find a Mother Goose, of course. Imagine my total joy to discover that "The Real Mother Goose" is in its seventy-fifth year of publication! Since my son is age 74, that means that my sister must have purchased an early copy. So now my son will read to his grandson from the book that was so much a part of his own toddlerhood.

My grandmother used to read this to my cousins and I when we were kids... I do not remember the rhymes being this weird. Ha ha. Holy s*** batman. I got this for my daughters (one is 19 months, the other is due in May), so I could share a little piece of my childhood with them. When it arrived, I got nostalgic and opened it. The cover and pictures seem a lot brighter than I remember, but then, our copy growing up was soo beat up. They brought back a lot of magic, and I can't wait for my girls to see them. That being said, the rhymes are a kind of twisted nonsensical sing song that I'm almost afraid to read to my kids.I'm totally gonna read this to my kids. :D

I had this book 45 yrs. ago for our son. It was lost in a move and I wanted to find it again for our 5 mo. old grandson. My father would read the nursery rhymes to our son when he was a year old and our son would repeat them back. He was quite a smarty. I like the idea of one on one interaction......no kindle or computer contact for us. Read along with children and grandchildren......let them know you care. I love this book after all these years. Thank you Amazon.

I purchased this for my 4 yr old granddaughter. I had recited Humpty Dumpty to her (after some toys fell off a shelf) and she wanted it repeated several times that day and for days after that. I had some wrapping paper with an illustration of Humpty and she fell in love with it; I could not find my old copy of nursery rhymes and this looked as though it had many of the same illustrations and rhymes and it hasn't disappointed at all. It has everything I remembered and she is in love. We read this daily, although she is faithful to her favorite - Humpty Dumpty.

I love the hard copy version of this book but I bought the Kindle version and it's horrible. Don't buy the a kindle version. The verses are not formatted correctly so the poem will just cut off and randomly be on the next page. And the beautiful images are almost microscopic. Very disappointed.

My niece loved this as a gift.

Just a caution. My 11 year old was enjoying this book, until he came to this part: page 198: "...his mother fell down the stairs... [she] was hurt so badly that she couldn't move; she'd broken her legs and an arm, and she had other internal damage. Little Frederick was the only person who could help. but being so young [9] and frightened, he didn't know what to do. He simply held his mother at the bottom of the stairs and screamed. By the time they were discovered, Frederick's mother had died."I felt that was a little unnecessarily traumatic. If your child is a gentle soul, or a hero-type like mine, this may be a little disturbing. It gave him bad dreams. I would have liked to have known about this before he started reading it, so maybe another parent will benefit from the fore-knowledge.

My rating of 3 stars is probably lower than what my 4th and 5th grade readers of animal-fantasy will give it. For them, the ability for animals, zoo and those thought to be extinct, to travel between the natural world and a more fantastic one is likely to grab their attention immediately. Throwing in a group of four friends with a treehouse fort who seek out adventure, a missing club member, developing relationships between humans and animals, evil Sasquatch creatures, and some magic means that I will buy this series for both my libraries. It is my hope that in future installments that Chick backs off the over-describing and the grandstanding/gushing done by Mr. Darby as he pleads his case for the saving of the Secret Zoo and the council that supports its existence. I am also hoping for a bit more depth in the character development of our four Action Scouts and more subtlety in setting us up for subsequent books. With this being his first book and it having such a unique premise, I am looking forward to watching the series unfold and improve in literary quality. But I will purchase them one at a time as I read them to be sure that aspect does improve. I recommend this book for readers in grades 4-8 who enjoy series such as Mull’s Fablehaven and O’Hearn’s Pegasus.

I bought this book for my 7 (almost 8) year old Granddaughter. She loved it. Parts she read herself and parts I read to her. For her there were parts that were 'kinda scary' and parts that made her laugh out loud. She is thinking about passing book 1 on to a friend. I just ordered her book 2; to quote my Granddaughter, "I can't wait!".

The Secret Zoo by Bryan Chick is a fun, fast-paced story about friendship, family, and (best of all) awesome animals. Mr. Chick seamlessly blends mystery and magic into a modern fairy tale, part detective novel and part adventure into Narnia.I downloaded The Secret Zoo after hearing about it at a local elementary school. I'm glad I did. I read it out loud to my 10-year-old (at the time) son and wife. We all enjoyed the book. The main characters are nice kids that my son could identify with. He especially liked Richie, the comic-relief character and adorable goofball. All of the characters, though, took a backseat to the awesome animals. I think I've mentioned them. Along their adventures in the Secret Zoo, the Action Scouts (the name the heroes give themselves collectively) meet and befriend polar bears, rhinos, prairie dogs, and more. They also encounter scary (age appropriate) sasquatches! What's not to like?All animal fans and everyone who has ever wondered where all the locked doors and mysterious nooks and crannies in a zoo lead should read this fun book.

Short chapters, engaging story. Curious obsession with animal heads "rolling" and the word "rump" on the part of the author which induces giggles, but otherwise very enjoyable book broken into short chapters for reading at bedtime. My kids love it. A little spooky in places, but not so much that we had to stop reading. Even Disney movies have spooky themes. It's a multiple book series, so the story doesn't move much in each book. We're on book 3 now and hooked. Kids won't go to bed without it.

I read to my children each night age ( 7 & 9 ). I don't normally purchase a book with this many chapters but this book has held more sons attention nightly, they can't wait for me to read to them which make bed time much easier. P.S. I enjoy the story line as well, I highly recommend it.

My 7 year old loves this book and won't put it down. He struggles with some of the "bigger" words but overall doing well reading it. He is already looking forward to the next one.

I bought this to round out my series of Secret Zoo books and enjoyed it as much if not more than the others. I was glad to see the same characters continue in this book particularly because it is their individual personalities that help make the story. It was a quicker read than the other books in the series but still worth reading. Is suitable for an avid reader in the fourth grade and up. I have enjoyed the world Mr. Chick has created in his story line and can not wait for the next one. I recommend that you buy this book for your younger reader or yourself, even if you are a Grandmother like me!

Simply knowing where the business resides on the organizational Prowess scale will give you confidence to act. You’ll also know what to act on and how to prioritize your actions.”The scale King is referring to is the scale he developed that when measured properly reflects the four levels of organizational competence:Agile: 80 to 100 points - Your Company has the enviable speed to market, a culture of innovation, and exceeds financial targets.Resilient: 60 to 70 points - Your Company typically achieves the revenue target but overachievement is elusive. This is the rifle-shot approach [rather than the carpet bombing approach] -- precise and efficient. While few leaders are reluctant to invest in their business, the challenge is deciding where to place the bets." In this context, I am reminded of two other volumes: Jeremy Hope and Steve Player's Beyond Performance Management: Why, When, and How to Use 40 Tools and Best Practices for Superior Business Performance, and, Enterprise Architecture As Strategy: Creating a Foundation for Business Execution, co-authored by Jeanne W. Ross, Peter Weill, and David Robertson. Bring this book with you to the Angkor temples. It has complete maps of all the temples with descriptions of how to find some of the hidden reliefs and sculptures in the temples. It also has suggested itineraries and lets you know the best time to visit each site for photography.There are two authors of the book: Freeman is the photographer, and several of his stunning photos are on each page. I would be lucky if any one of my vacation pictures from Angkor come out as good as his. Claude Jacques is the historian, who wrote the background information. This part leaves a little to be desired - I recommend Michael Coe's book if you want historical background. Jacques is recognized as a thought leader on Khmer history, but his writing in English is not very informative. His introductory chapters did not give me any real understanding of the Khmer temple-builders. And some of the descriptions of the reliefs will state things like "on the south wall a warrior is riding an elephant." Well duh, I can see that. However, some of the descriptions are very good. They will describe the story from the Hindu Veda that the relief is depicting, like the story of the monkey army in the Ramayana seen on many temples.Outside any of the Angkor temples, you will find hustling Cambodian kids selling pirated versions of this book for under two dollars. The pirated version is compact and lightweight, but you would be missing out on Freeman's amazing color photographs.If you are lucky enough to visit Angkor, here are my suggestions:1. Get a hotel or guesthouse in Siem Reap with AC and a pool. On your first day there, find a driver you trust that you will hire for the rest of your trip (twenty bucks a day is reasonable for a tuk-tuk, more for a car).2. Wake up 4:30am every day and have your driver take you to a temple for sunrise (when the light is best for photography and temperature is reasonable).3. Have your driver take you back to the hotel for a swim and a nap (so you will not be out at the hottest part of the day when the big tour groups come through the temples).4. Have your driver take you to another temple for sunset.5. Don't miss the Bayon or Ta Prohm temples, or the Kampong Phluk floating village.

Excellent overview of the Angkor temples. I purchased the book by Dawn Rooney as well, but Freeman's book is more 'portable' and I plan to take it with me on my travels in Cambodia.

This is a great guide to get around all of the Angkor temple complexes. It contains fantastic maps, detailed historical information and even suggested itineraries of the sites and of the landmarks at each site, which was a probably the most helpful thing in the book for me. It seriously contained everything I needed to know for my husband and I to hit the ruins solo. And since the book contains some pictures of the ruins, you can use that to help prioritize which sites you want to see. Helpful hint- whichever site(s) you want to see the most, go to that one earliest, like 6 am, before the crowds come in around 9 or 10 am. Good Luck!

This is a great book to take along on your trip to Angkor. There aren't many signs on-site and unless you are paying for a guide, you may miss the contextual history and architectural significance that will make the trip more interesting.Pro-tip: many locals sell this book at Angkor for a few bucks if you want to wait until you get there. This is a colorful and engaging autobiography. Pickens shares insights into his personal and business successes, setbacks, and comebacks; his sundry business undertakings (oil, natural gas, natural gas filling stations, wind, water, hedge fund management); his vision for America's energy future; his leadership philosophy; his competitiveness; lessons learned; and his philanthropic activities. The book is fascinating, thought-provoking, and inspirational. I've listened to the audio version four or five times already. It's that good.

Very quick, but enjoyable read. I really like the self deprecating nature of T. Boone and you will come to appreciate his humor and like the man as he depicts the highlight moments of his career. I gave this 4 stars only because this is billed by many as one of the best books about business out there--that I do not agree. It may have been a problem of expectations but I would not put this book in the category of one of the best, but an extremely easy read that I think anyone would enjoy.

As someone who generally follows the motto, "the government that governs best, governs least"...I recant! Boone Pickens describes in this book why it is critical for the government to help establish new energy transmission corridors in the US to allow new wind and solar energy generating sources to flourish. We also need to convert our engines to burn natural gas--a domestic resource we can use to help replace our need for crude oil. I agree with him!The chief lesson here is that the world of cheap oil is over. Don't believe Pickens? Then read Matthew Simmons book "Twighlight in the Desert" about the maturing Saudi Oil fields. Forget the recent drop in oil prices...high oil is here to stay over the long term...and as the Chinese and Indian economies flourish in the next decade or so, look out!!!The US must prepare now to get off its addiction to oil, and Picken's got a great plan. No doubt, he stands to make a lot of money if his plan is enacted, but no doubt, I'd rather the money go to him than to a lot of the folks currently making money off my gas guzzling Camry. Join the "Picken's Plan"--see his web site--this is a true once in a lifetime grass roots movement that may make a big difference to the future of the US. Go Pickens!

Really enjoyed this book. I am in the oil and gas industry so I enjoyed seeing the different aspects of it from his perspective. He was wrong in saying that new technology will not enable us to discover more oil. Book was published in 2008 and shortly after that the shale boom came along thanks to, "New Technology". Did not make me look at this book any different because no one really saw the shale boom coming. Now the U.S. is set to be the top oil producer by 2015. Enough with the facts, give it a read you will enjoy it. I hope his plan for natural gas takes off, from what I can see it is catching hold. Have seen more fleets in the news lately going with nat gas thanks to his company Clean Energy Fuels installing the infrastructure for them to do so.

I found this book tedious and irritating, the only reason I finished it is because Verne Harnish recommended it in one of his seminars.The purpose of the book is for Pickens to tell us about his success. There is little else to it. Some might find his billion dollar story taking high risk bets on energy commodities inspirational. I didn't. The first time he got it wrong and he lost his company. The second time the Iraq war came along and his bet paid off.The only useful information I got out of this book that I might use for myself is1. Pickens worked hard, getting up very early every morning2. He met with his top team very early in the morning, before his workout, and again at the end of the day - every day.On a chapter on philanthropy he paints himself as one of the greats - donating over $400M. We discover later in the chapter that this money went to his college athletic department, to drag his football team out of the cellar. Move over Bill Gates.A lightweight affair oozing Pickens' ego from every page.Verne put me on to another title that is possibly the best book on business I have read - The Ultimate Question 2.0. Certainly Pickens is a well accomplished man, but I found the book to lack a clear style or purpose. It included some entertaining stories but nothing very deep about business management. Boone seems to want the government to both, prop up his industries but to also have very little oversight over them. I thought his philosophies contradicted themselves frequently.

In this book, Pickens proves inspiring and motivational. The early part of the book is focused on his developmental period of post-grad life and early business exploration. The later half combined his capitalistic approaches with his passion for alternative energy. T. Boone is an incredibly smart man, role model, and knowledgable advocate for reversing America's dependency on foreign oil. Great read!

So this is an old fasioned book for people from a different era. I used to read cooking books like this when i was young and they were my grandmothers. Its simple and to the point, there is no real beating around the bush on these topics. I cant wait to get one for myself, as this was a gift to my mother and so far shes already planning on building the smoker design using a refrigerator. Funny thing is an older gent that lives in the house said they build the exact same style back in the 80s to smoke fish.

This is an excellent book for the beginner. Having said that, we were looking for something a little more advanced and detailed since we've been canning, hunting, freezing, etc., for over 15 years. Well-written and informative for the beginner.

A great book if you are new to meats or just need a refresher. Breaks many things down and walks you step by step through the whole process. Includes weights, times, temperatures and ingredients needed to succeed.

Great book, great for reference and instructional etc. If your going to can or preserve you need to do your research from as many sources as possible. The issue is, most methods even sloppy will work for short time periods but if you are forced to rely on home prepped canned food you need to do it "absolutely" right for longer term storage where the bacterial count has time to multiply versus a few months or the next winter 6 months away etc. I know sounds like common sense.. But you would be surprised how many folks cross contaminate while in process etc.

This came in handy and I have been smoking fish, beef, pork and chicken for years. I learned a few new techniques. Canning portion is very informative.

I like that it walks you through the process of making things. Has some great tips and pictures. Not a book you sit down, read once, and pick up everything. But one you can go back to time and time again. I even started a bug out bag because of this book, and have included a 2nd copy of the book in it. Not a big risk/gamble to own. Great tips and hints though!

No fluff or BS. This book gets straight to the point! It teaches pressure canning, brining, curing, jerky making, freezing and smoking....and gives multi techniques for all. It has recipes, but is more of a how to book, than a cook book. Lots of information on safe handling and preparation. It also has information on safe preparation of wild caught game and fish.Curing, brining and smoking food is becoming a lost art. This book teaches tried and true procedures, with an emphasis on modern equipment. But, still includes old fashioned techniques and equipment.

Full of info an illustrations an measurement charts. Only a few confusing chapters on the cutting meat an processing it. This could be cause im new to some of it. Has a index in back of book along with resources an phone #'s. Worth the money for someone adding to or wanting to build on their knowledge.

Gr 9 Up—From witch trials to Y2K, this short story anthology tells fictional tales of LGBTQ teens throughout history. Though most entries are realistic, there are a few magical tales based on legends scattered throughout. The diversity is refreshing: it's not just white history being told and there is a deaf character fighting alongside Robin Hood. However, the queerness trends toward lesbian and gay teens. There are a few asexual characters, showing a variety of people on the ace spectrum, and a few trans boys, but no trans girls or nonbinary characters. The short stories are well written, as can be expected from the well-known contributors such as Anne-Marie McLemore and Shaun David Hutchinson. One standout piece is "And They Don't Kiss at the End" by Nilah Magruder, which tells Dee's story as a black, roller disco—loving teen coming to terms with her asexuality. Malinda Lo's "New Year" really captures the slow discovery by young Lily on Lunar New Year of an underground of queer folk like her. Fans who are loyal to these authors will be pleased by the entries. Some teen voices feel more authentic than others, and at times, the more modern settings felt a bit heavy-handed. This was a blessing to read. This is a historical literature short story collection, showcasing LGBTQIAP+ characters. And all of the authors that contributed to this collection are LGBTQIAP+ and that is something that I don’t even have words for. I am forever thankful that Saundra Mitchell curated this, that Harlequin published this, and that kids and teens everywhere are going to be able to pick this up and know that they are never alone and that they have never been alone, throughout history.These stories also are set all over the world, even though the majority of them do take place in The United States. I do personally wish that we had a little more variety, but the stories themselves are super important and I feel very privileged that I was able to read them. My only other minor complaint is that I also wish that there was a pansexual character. I get no titles were used in many of these stories, but I still wish there were bigger hints and/or possibilities that would have personally made my pan heart happy.My personal favorite was The Inferno & the Butterfly by Shaun David Hutchinson. It was so beautifully written, the messages were expertly woven in, and the characters are two that I won’t forget anytime soon. Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore and Every Shade of Red by Elliot Wake were super close to also being my favorite. And both of these stories are ones I will carry in my heart forever. And I truly believe, without a doubt, that these three short stories are worth the entire price of this anthology alone!I'm going to break down each short story with my thoughts, opinions, and individual star rating!➽ Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore - ★★★★★“I wanted them to know that I was my abuela’s granddaughter, that carried the blood of poison girls.”1870 Mexico - I wish every anthology that I will ever read for the rest of my life started with a story by Anna-Marie McLemore. The beauty, the power, the magic in her words. It is something I can’t find words for, but it makes me feel everything. Absolutely everything. This story centers around an ownvoices Latinx main character, who is trying to get her trans lover out of jail. This story discusses trans issues and does it so well, and even though I am cis, I was still blown away at what this author was able to accomplish with this masterpiece of a short story. And the w/w romance in this is so awe-inspiring and just so heartwarming. I loved it. And I loved this so very much. There is also so much beautiful magical realism in this, that deals with poison, and it has me super hyped to read more about it in Blanca y Roja this fall!➽ The Sweet Trade by Natalie C. Parker - ★★★“Clara Elizabeth Byrd had been married twice by the age of sixteen and she had decided she had no taste for it.”1717 USA, Virginia - I enjoyed this one, I just didn’t love this one. Clara is a runaway bride, who is sailing away for a getaway, when she comes across another girl that is running from the same future that neither one of them envision for themselves. Obviously a really cute w/w relationship blooms, and both girls have hopes and dreams of ruling the seas together as pirate queens disguised as kings. And this makes me excited to read this author’s LGBTQIAP+ pirate story, Seafire, this summer!➽ And They Don’t Kiss At the End by Nilah Magruder - ★★★★“I like what I like and I don’t like what I don’t. I have nothing to apologize for.”1976 USA, Maryland - This was so smartly created for this anthology. From the title, to Pride & Prejudice, to skating, to the music, to the amazing rep; this was nothing but a joy to read. This was a gift sent from above. This story features an ownvoices black main character, who is trying to figure out her sexual orientation, but she knows she’s on the ace spectrum. Hell, it’s hard enough for aro and ace kids to figure out their sexual ID even in 2018, and in the 70s there isn’t even a name for it. But this was the sweetest story, that even made me shed a few tears. Also, there was the Filipino boy in this who was a confirmed cinnamon roll. But, please, I want a full-length story of Dee!➽ Burnt Umber by Mackenzi Lee - ★★★★“I am the boy most accomplished at not becoming distracted by the first naked woman we draw. Which is something, I suppose.”1638 Netherlands, Amsterdam - Okay, this one was actually super funny. I was having a dang giggle while reading this one. And I felt like the main character talked a lot like I would in his situation, and, Lord, help me, I loved it. This one stars a boy in a prestigious painting class and, from the quote above, you can probably tell what they’re painting next. There is minor bullying in this, and an important discussion on how dangerous coming out was back then (and still can be). But the story really gets started when the main characters crush is the next subject they are about to draw.➽ The Dresser & The Chambermaid by Robin Talley - ★★★“Susanna was accustomed to creeping about the palace in the dark.”1726 England, London, Kensington Palace - This wasn’t my favorite story in the anthology, but I loved the setting so much. At this point, I think Robin Talley is the queen of atmosphere, and she proves it again in this short story. This is about two girls who are both servants to a very demanding young princess. One has lived her entire life in the castle, and the other is brand new and needs the assistance of the other to know how the princess likes her hair. This is a cute w/w romance, and I’d love to read more. Also, this was super sex positive, and I always appreciate that!➽ New Year by Malinda Lo - ★★★★“Tommy Andrews, the male impersonator, brings something different in nightclub entertainment…”1955 USA, California, San Francisco- This is a story about a (ownvoices) Chinese-American girl discovering who she is, and what her sexuality is, growing up in Chinatown. It also happens to be the Chinese New Year, and someone catches her eye when they walk into her friend’s restaurant. And I need this full story now! Ahhh, especially with that ending! But this was a great read, even though it was romance free, and it discussed so many important topics about immigration, and deportation, and how badly we treat immigrants, even in 2018. It also was a very feminist and empowering short story, and I loved the author’s note at the end of this one. I desperately need to read more by Malinda Lo.➽ Molly’s Lips by Dahlia Adler - ★★“She’ll never love me like she loves a man she’ll never meet.”1994 USA, Washington, Seattle - This had everything that I should have loved. I love everything 90s, especially grunge music, and the entire aesthetic just seemed like something I’d enjoy, as morbid as that probably sounds. This is a story about two girls grieving the death of Kurt Cobain, in the place where grunge music was born. And I loved the writing style, I just thought the story left a lot to be desired. I love me a good w/w best friends to lovers story, and I love the message that music truly has healing powers, but this one was just a bit boring for me. Which kind of breaks my heart, because I do really love Nirvana.➽ The Coven by Kate Scelsa - ★★“It was Gertrude Stein who first introduced us to the coven.”1920s France, Paris - This is about a girl grieving the loss of her brother and dealing with the depression that no doctor is able to diagnose. She then finds a coven with her girlfriend, that helps young girls like her. And I guess the w/w romance was cute, but this one just read so very boring for me personally.➽ Every Shade of Red by Elliot Wake - ★★★★★“If I must lie to the world to be true to my heart, then I’ll lie. I’ll cheat, I’ll steal and I’ll do it with a smile. Love is the only higher power I answer to, and my love is no less for being chaste.”1300s England | - I thought this was going to be good, but it ended up being perfect. This is an awesome Robin Hood retelling. And Robin in this story is a trans boy, who is in love with our main protagonist, who ran away from a father that didn’t accept him. And this m/m romance had me swooning. Also, our main protagonist is hearing impaired and seeing him sign on page was something so magical to me. And the ending? I still feel absolutely gutted. But the heart of this story is about love; the love we have for others, but also the love that we must find in accepting ourselves for who we are. This was so brilliantly done and was honestly perfection in every way, and I loved it more than any combination of words I can come up with.➽ Willows by Scott Tracey - ★★“That is the secret to survival. Teach fear to those who taught you to be afraid.”1732 USA, Massachusetts | - This just didn’t work for me in the slightest. Maybe it was me and my reading comprehension, but this felt so incohesive to me and was super hard to follow. But it had witches in it? And being scared because of the way witches were dealt with back in the 1700s Massachusetts. But it was sort of like an exploration of a person that has been different people in different lives, while exploring gender, too. And in the end, they are in a relationship with a guy, and they run away together. But this just was so not for me in any way.➽ The Girl with the Blue Lantern by Tess Sharpe - ★★★★★“And I am yours […] always.”1839 USA, Northern California | - This was everything I wanted. This was whimsical, this was lyrical, and this was perfect. I would buy and read anything, and everything set in this world, and in those woods. Also, this is one of the few stories in the anthology that felt like a full story. This was beyond words good, and I had full body goosebumps at the very end of the story. This story centers around a young girl, with an abusive father, that lives in a town that fears going into the woods. Well, one day, after her dog escapes into said woods, the girl ventures in to find him and meets a girl who is not human (and there is no confirmation, but I want to yell at you all “FAE GIRL!”) And I was so invested in this tale. And I was so into the friendship, turned into something more between these very different girls, who both bond over feeling alone. This is easily one of my favorites in this entire collection.➽ The Secret Life of a Teenage Boy by Alex Sanchez - ★★★★“…Ready to tell Mom and Dad the thing they already know.”1969 USA, Virginia | - This is about a boy who loves his family dearly but doesn’t know how to let them know that he is not straight. Him and his sister are really close, which I love, because my brother has always and will always be my best friend. And one day, a car breaks down outside their home, and our main character spends time with the young driver, while waiting for someone to repair the vehicle. Okay, I really liked this one, because even though this was set twenty years before I was born, I still remember a lot of the homophobia that went on in this story. And just seeing this boy finally seeing someone that is happy and confident with their sexuality, and wanting to run away and be that too? That evoked some emotion from me. And this just felt like such accurate representation of all the thoughts you have when you’re young and discovering your sexuality (at least for me, personally) and I really enjoyed this one.➽ Walking After Midnight by Kody Keplinger - ★★★“I’m never gonna see the world or do anything people will remember.”1952 USA, New York | - This one was super adorable, I just didn’t fall in love with it the same way I did some of the other stories in this collection. This is about an actress, that is starting to feel past her prime, and she misses her train connection in a small town. A girl who is closing up a nearby diner see’s the girl and offers her somewhere to stay. This is a cute story about knowing your worth, and knowing what you want from life, and not letting anyone tell you differently. Also, I believe the main character could possibly be on the ace spectrum, so that’s awesome too! But I wish we could have seen both of these characters a year from when they first met.➽ The End of the World As We Know It by Sara Farizan - ★★★★★“...to think that on the eve of the apocalypse, I’m wasting my last hours watching Carson Daly in Times Square awkwardly burgeoning pop star Mandy Moore the most banal of questions.”1999 USA, Massachusetts, Boston | - You all, this one made me feel so… old… but so seen. Holy moly, so seen. Okay, I was a lot younger than the main protagonist in 1999, but I remember it. I was still in elementary school, but everyone was freaking out and I remember my parents being freaked out about the banks and them stocking up on bottled water and things like that! Also, me and my friends thought we were the absolute coolest, and we would always rush home after school to watch TRL, because we had to know if Blink 182 would actually beat Britney or Christina to number 1 that day. Also, this story mentions Aaliyah, who me and my best friend were obsessed with. Like, so obsessed with that she made it her daughter’s middle name when she was born a few years ago. And I also remember Matthew Shepard and what happened to him, and it being one of the first tragedies I actually remember happening. And it shook me, even as a little kid, to my very core. This is about a girl who is a senior in high school, and she is home on New Year’s Eve with her parents. Well, until her best friend who she hasn’t spoken to recently comes over. And a cute w/w romance brews. TL;DR – I’m giving this five stars because 1.) I loved it with my whole heart, but 2.) this was my very early adolescence, and around the time I started to realize that I wasn’t straight, so this story just really spoke to me.➽ Three Witches by Tessa Gratton - ★★★★★“The ease with which s beautiful girl can seduce Violante has been the core of her troubles all her life.”1519 Spain, Burgos, Castile | - Tessa Gratton is such a talented writer, and when I read her writing it feels truly like I’m reading art. This story is a bit of a darker one, because it’s about a girl in conversion therapy that is being administered by the Catholic church. And we get to see a relationship with our main character, Violante, and one of the nuns. This was powerful, this was haunting, and it truly is something I won’t be able to get out of my head. And I will always choose love, and I hope you all do too.➽ The Inferno & the Butterfly by Shaun David Hutchinson - ★★★★★“And it was in that moment that I understood what it meant to be loved.”1839 London | - The last sentence of this story. God, I’m still weeping. This was such a masterpiece. I loved this with the sum of my entire being. This was the first thing I’ve ever read by Shaun David Hutchinson, and I promise it won’t be the last. This is a short story about two rivaling magician assistances, both learning to live with the pain from their pasts. Their paths cross, and they start to see that life doesn’t have to be all pain, and that everyone is worthy of love. I want more. No, I need more. I feel so in love with this world, this magic, and these two boys who completely captivated me and stole my heart. This was my favorite in the entire collection. This story alone makes the entire collection worth the purchase.➽ Healing Rosa by Tehlor Kay Mejia - ★★★★★“Rose was a summer girl, and I was a winter girl, but that fall we made magic.”1933 USA, New Mexico | - This one was very powerful! This is an ownvoices latinx short story about a girl, whose grandmother was believed to be a bruja, and another girl who she can’t help but show her feelings for, regardless of what the girl’s father thinks, and regardless of what the demon inside her feels. And the magical realism in this was a blessing to my eyes and my soul. Beautiful, so beautiful. And this just was so unapologetically LGBTQIAP+ and it just raised me up, and made me feel so happy, and reminded me to never feel shame. God, I just loved this one so much. And these two girls were my favorite couple in the entire anthology.Overall, I loved this. And representation always matters, but it especially matters to kids that feel alone and feel like what they are feeling, or who they are, is wrong. LGBTQIAP+ isn’t a trend, or a theme, and it sure and the hell isn’t anything new. And no matter how much history books want to pretend we didn’t exist back then, they will always be wrong.

Anthologies can often be uneven, but I was very pleased with the overall quality of the stories in this collection. There were some definite standouts (Malinda Lo, Mackenzi Lee, Elliot Wake, Tess Sharpe, Shaun David Hutchinson), but all of the stories were compelling and brought to life the various time periods in which they were set.

I only knew a few of the authors included in this anthology, but I'm SO glad I bought this book and got to discover the range of incredible voices, stories, and identities. Each story was fantastic and different. I've recommended this to multiple young readers, and each has found a fantastic connection to many of the stories within. Highly recommended.

Haven’t finished yet but I’m about half way through and I love every single story they are diverse in sexual representation and have such amazing stories and I can’t wait to finish it

Most of the stories left me wanting more!! Even the ones that did not make me hungry for more content were still excellent in a different way and left me feeling satisfied.

I'm glad I picked up this anthology! There's a great mix of stories in here, all featuring lgbtq+ teens, which was so refreshing to read even though it says that right in the title. I really appreciated how diverse the stories were not just with sexuality, but also with disability and race. I'd definitely recommend picking this up if you're in the mood for creative, diverse YA stories.

i am currently always looking for amazing LGBTQ+ books and was so pleasantly surprised with how wonderful for this book was. so many little short stories that all gave a little something. a really special book.
