My wife found a copy of this book at the wonderful used bookstore, McKay's Books in Chattanooga. She said that I was sure to love it. In looking at he cover, I thought to myself...this is a 'chick book,' not one for a rough, tough guy like me! I am a 76-year old retired naval officer who spent almost 30-years in the Navy, mostly associated with submarines. Additionally, I grew up on the Alabama Gulf Coast in the 1940s & 50s. The setting and time are both evocative to me. The smells of the Gulf coast and a submarine leap off the pages, and the characters are alive in my memory. The drive south from Foley to the Gulf is still burned into my memory and this book brought it all back, vividly. At the end of that road, where one could turn to the right to Fort Morgan or left to Pensacola, there was a gas station/bait shop/burger place. One could go in either direction and see nothing else but pure white sand for as far as the eye could see. And the fishing with my father in the bayous and beaches is among my most cherished childhood memories. There is a naval signal, usually transmitted by the flags B (bravo) and Z (Zulu) which means simply 'well done.' BZ is a high compliment. So, to Mr. Andrews, I offer an 'old Sailor's' BZ! (Only one tiny, tiny observation...the submarine on the cover does not fit the period, and it is definitely not a German Type IX U-boat. Looks like a US submarine of the 1960s/70s.)

WOW! If this book does not move you, you have better check your pulse. This review is based on the second reading of the book which I did all in one day - don't do that very often. That is how good the book and story are. Why hasn't someone made a movie of this book/story? While I was reading it I kept asking, is this true or fiction. It is what I call an inspirational novel but again is it a true story? I believe it is. I read it under a different title and the book left me guessing, sort of. It is the story about a German U-Boat that had an incident between crew members just off the coast of Mobile, Alabama during WWII. It left one crew member shot and struggling to just be alive as he washed up on the beaches of Alabama. The story then gets really interesting. A very easy read but hard to put down. I highly recommend it but then that is a very safe recommendation because EVERYTHING Andy Andrews writes is GREAT!

Andy Andrews has a true gift of storytelling. And what a story he tells here. I love books that reveal parts of history not commonly known. As a Southern girl, I was intrigued to learn about German submarines in the Gulf of Mexico during WWII attacking US ships. This story is the journey of one German submariner who ends up injured and living on the Gulf Coast of Alabama. It is also the story of love, friendship, and forgiveness. Nuggets of wisdom are found throughout the tale. The author's use of a personal experience before and after the historical story is quite effective. This book is full of lessons from history and life, and I highly recommend it!

I loved that this book was basically a true story and it was about a topic of history that I never knew existed. I've read lots of WW II historical novels but nothing about fighting in the Gulf of Mexico. It was a fast read, holding my attention easily.

I began reading this book,thinking it was a light story. Was I wrong! I could not put this book down. It is a story of a man who finds some old buttons, pictures, and a silver medal in a can in his backyard when he is moving a tree. His curiosity "uncovers" the fact they were German in origin and he begins to search for the owner. The story is told through the a small town on the Gulf of Mexico and the uboat activity during WWII. This is a story of being human and making choices ( history, loss, forgiveness, friendship, courage, rebirth, etc.)all with thought provoking points that make you think about things in your own life...long after you finish the book.The writing style makes you feel as though you are listening to a good friend's storyI want to read all of Mr. Andrews books.

I so enjoyed this story. I go to the Gulf Shores area every summer and never realized there were subs in the Gulf during WW II. I would love tosit down and have a cup of coffee with Andy and his wife during our next visit there. This story has given me such a broader connection with the Gulf Shores area. My yaya friends and I chose this book to read for our book club and will be discussing it next week on our beach trip in Gulf Shores. The best part to me, besides the area setting, was the forgiveness factor. Forgiveness is so liberating and was a key element to the story.Thanks for telling the story Andy!! Kudos!!

I grew up in the Gulf area where this story takes place,when I was young I remember my parents talking about the submarines in he area during the war. I have never understood why our government knew and did nothing, I also remember them talking of spies who came ashore. This is a very very good book,I could not stop reading it until it was finished. It brought back so many memories of the time and the area and of the people who lived there,and yes I remember Foley and what it was like back then. Marvelous book!

I loved this book. It has elements of love, mystery and history. It is basically a flashback to World War II on the Alabama/Florida coast. A man, a writer, finds a packet of German mementos under a rotted tree and finds out all about who left it there. What he finds out is the impact of WWII on a small town in the 40s and the people who lived there. There are many elements such as attempted murder, a cruel Nazi spy, smuggling by an American to the German navy, and the personal lives of those that lived in a small beach town during the war. There is a little surprise at the end. It was a quick read and I enjoyed reading something different with a bit of American life during the war here in the USA.

I love this series and this book is no different. It's a little dark and gritty, intriguing and well written. A priest has to come to terms with his vows concerning confessions and his personal sense of justice. Can he keep quiet? Shay is on the case and per usual, pulls the smallest details out of virtually nothing. I love how the author pieces together clues until the whole picture is formed. I also love that Jackson and Shay seem to be moving forward in their relationship. Can't wait for the next.

The Shaye Archer series is a little darker and more serious than all of Jana DeLeon’s other series but don’t let that turn you away. This is an excellent series to get wrapped up in. In the latest installment of Shaye’s story, she finds herself investigating a crime from a confession given to a priest. She has no proof that it actually occurred, no witnesses, no evidence, only a confession with the barest of details to go by. It seems like an impossible case but Shaye finds a way to get the bad guy. You think you know who the bad guy is by the middle of the book but don’t be fooled, Ms. DeLeon throws one heck of a curve ball. The end of the book is quite a shocker when you find out who it really is. The best part of this series is how far those unexpected twists go. And these books are full of them. If you haven’t tried the series yet I definitely recommend it.

What a fantastic book! I really like all the Shaye Archer stories but Jana DeLeon has done a great job with this book and the continuing story. Shaye has survived a horrific childhood and with the help of her adoptive mother and her therapist she has carved out a productive place for herself in her recovery. To her mother’s horror Shaye has decided to become a private investigator. She has completed her internship and has hung out her shingle. Thus each story is a mystery solving her latest case. Along the way recurring characters make there presence. My favorite is Detective LaMotte, Shaye ‘s romantic interest. Their relationship is sweet and slow developing. My only sadness is I have to wait for the next book.

Nicolas Chatry a young priest ordained a year, hears a disturbing confession of the person confessing to murder. The seal of the confession means the priest can't disclose anything that they learn with the threat of excommunication. He has a tremendous burden in deciding what to do as the killer could kill again. On top of that he is confined to a wheelchair due to an auto accident which limits his ability to react to someone who is stalking him as a potential next victim. Lots of suspects in this serial killer mystery. Another girl has disappeared and the hunt is on to find her before she's killed. Both Shaye and Detective Lamotte are working on what turns out to be the same case, but Shaye is bound by promising to keep Father Nicolas's testimony to herself. The only annoying complaint is that the phrase "blowing out a breath" was used by numerous characters 23 times! It got to be a game as I kept track. The mystery of who done it and the returning characters made for a quick read. I think this is my favorite of the series as it really drew me into the characters. It helps to read books in order, but not absolutely necessary.

Father Nicholas, hearing a confession of a murderer requesting forgiveness, led to an interconnected web of victims, suspects, and the one least likely murderers. From Hailey's abduction, Sunny's crucifixion, and Nicholas' torment, St.Mary's Church would become the latest nail in the coffin on religions' pitfalls.Great characters, intricate plot, captivating writing/editing, and an unbelievable antagonist, that never made it onto my initial list of suspects. So glad Shaye and Jackson are finally moving their relationship up to the next rung on the dating ladder. A MUST-READ novel, that is gravity defying!!03/02/19

Once again Jana DeLong brings us a fantastic book about Shaye Archer. Spoiler alert, hope you don’t have anything planned for tomorrow, you’ll be reading all night. I like the small notes that Ms. DeLong brings into the story to bring you up to date on what Shaye’s life has been in the previous books. However, this is truly one series were I would recommend you start with book 1 to get the depth of Shaye’s story, her adopted mother Corrine and Eleanor the therapist. The relationship she has with Detective LaMotte all made the story real. When Father Nicholas Chatry who is in a wheelchair hears a confession of a murder, he turns to his mentor Father Bernard Abshire the senior pastor of St. Mary’s. Should he break his vows and what will be the punishment if he does? When Jackson LaMotte gets a case of a missing girl, Hailey Pitre; you can’t help but thing will the two mysteries come to be one. Can't wait for book 8

This series has me hooked and it's not my usual genre. A compelling storyline with a few teasers and twists. Quick appearances by Corinne, Eleanor and Hustle - loved seeing them. What I missed from this book was delving into Shaye's story. Watching her work through persoanl issues as well as the current. This book focused on the current mystery and Shaye's ability to relate, but no more reveals about her past. Of course there's the last line of the book, which is more of testament to how far she's come.

If Ms DeLeon had not written such funny, silly books as her Ghost in Law series and Unlucky, I would truly sorry about how in-depth her knowledge is about serial killers and there thought process. Chilling! When I first began reading this series I didn't realize how serious this series would be. Complete turn around from her other books even though their were protagonists in all of them. Wonderful read.

Moonlight on Nightingale Way is the conclusion to the On Dublin Street series. Grace Farquhar can't stand her disrespectful, sleep-robbing, and womanizing neighbor. The few doorstep discussions she's had with him were of annoyed and sarcastic nature, and Grace honestly doesn't understand how female can fall for him - if it weren't for his hotter-than-holy looks.Logan MacLeod just got out of prison for assaulting the man who beat and almost raped his sister. That 2 years in prison have changed him, and he is trying hard to put that past behind him an move on. And dealing with that annoying neighbor of his is not on top pf his priorities. However, when Grace involuntarily witnesses a huge and unexpected turn in Logan's life, she willingly stands by his side and helps him figure things out...What I loved about this book:The buildup between the main charactersThe steamy scenesWhat I felt needed improvement:The storyline was too drama riddled in the end (unnecessarily, IMHO)The constant interactions which previous main characters were a bit too annoyingWhile I enjoyed Moonlight on Nightingale Way , and it was was better than the latest books I read in this series, it still couldn't reach the bar set by the first 3 books On Dublin Street , Down London Road or Before Jamaica Lane.The writing was Samantha-Young-like great. The story is told exclusively from Grace's POV, so there's the constant suspense regarding what's going on in Logan's head. Samantha Young is a genius when it comes to creating characters with great chemistry, and this book is a prime example.There's something I really, really love in a book, and it's when characters are mutually attracted to each other but start the story off by strongly disliking one another. I'm talking about the kind of hate/lust relationship that creates extremely exciting, underlying sexual tension; as well as a healthy dose of sexual frustration. And believe me, Moonlight on Nightingale Way did not disappoint in that regard. Especially the steamy scenes were epic (even though you had to be patient to get to that point!) "Like the man needed to be compared to God. His ego was already biblical. Logan McLeod was an arrogant pain in my arse."I also liked the main characters very much. Grace is a quiet and withdrawn character with a good soul, but far from being naive and inexperienced. She comes with baggage, but has managed to make a life for herself despite of that baggage she carries. In some books, it's just so cliché: as soon as the female main character is a bit less outgoing, and likes her quiet to read a book, she happens to have no experience with men and turns out totally naive. Thank god, Grace is not one of those girls. The only thing however, that annoyed the hell out of me with Grace was that she seemed to find everyone hot! Be it Logan or whatever On Dublin Street male specimen, she found them absolutely flaming hot. Girl, have some self-respect. "I didn't particularly want to stick around to see Logan do a good deed. It might put a dent in my annoyance, and I wanted nothing to penetrate my dislike for my new neighbor."And Logan was also a very likeable character, although it took me some time to warm up to him. Logan is an ex-convict and trying hard to put this past behind him. He's trying to be a better man but knows that his bad reputation is following him. What's worse, his prison stay has left marks, and made him question whether he can ever go back to respecting his own self. I loved how he was the vulnerable one in the story, and that Grace was the one who "saved" him, despite having to fight through her own issues. "I can't walk away from you even if I wanted to. And I don't want to. You are reality and sweet oblivion wrapped up in one annoyingly argumentative, always bloody-right, classy, gorgeous-as-frak package."The storyline however was only OK. There was a lot of buildup between Grace and Logan which was really great (and which totally kept me on my toes), but once they had fond their way together, the story was a tad too cheesy and I was also annoyed at the fact that there was a lot of unnecessary drama. Half of the people in that book had awful parents and are suffering from it: Logan, Grace and Maia. That was just a bit too much too be coincidental. Last but not least, I just thought that there were too many characters: all the On Dublin Street crew was there (and ever-present, albeit a few years older) and I just couldn't keep up anymore with who was who. I kid you not, the book felt too crowded.All in all, Moonlight on Nightingale Way totally had potential to pass the "beginning-of-the-series" bar, since the first half of the book was full of tension and anticipation. The few twists and turns in the storyline also made up for an interesting read once the characters gave in to their attraction. But the end of their story was not as exciting as I hoped for it to be. Still,The epilogue here was nice: it was a proper round-up and finale to the whole series, as each couple got a few pages to showcase their happy ending. It's been a nice series, but I am not sad to let the On Dublin Street crew go, because it became a little too much (characters) in the end, and the fact that all characters always starred in all the books made the matter very confusing. It was also too much happy end all rolled into one, which made the whole series a tad cheesy and unrealistic. But hey, some books in the series - especially the first ones - make absolutely great reads.

Before this book Nate and Liv's story was my favorite but this story rivals that one for top favorite. I love this book for the emotions it brings out and how you wish for the happy ending that both Grace and Logan deserve.We are introduced to Logan in the previous story where he was serving time for the nealy fatal beating of his sister's boyfriend. When he gets out, let's just say that Logan is definitely making up for lost time. We meet Grace his next door neighbor who has no appreciation for his revolving door of ladies and the all the "noises" they make. Logan and Grace do not start out on the right foot and continue to antagonize each other until a surprise Logan never knew existed shows up. Grace is there when Logan meets the daughter that his ex told him she aborted and Grace puts her animosity aside to support the scared and anxious teen as well as her surprised father. Grace becomes the person who helps them to build a relationship and in the process falls for both father and daughter. We get to watch as Logan and Grace build a friendship, become each others support system, and so much more. We watch a father and daughter connect and see the insecurity that Logan has on being a father to a teenage daughter. We see Grace become the one woman who Logan's daughter can count on.Logan begins to see that Grace is so much more than he ever thought and he begins to develop deeper feelings for her but he struggles with memories of prison and the mindset that he doesn't deserve the love and salvation Grace would bring. He pushes her away and in the process destroys the trust that Grace had for him.Grace had a cold and miserable upbringing that left her riddled with many insecurities. Logan reaches past all that and claims her heart but when he pushes her away he brings back all those insecurities she thought she had overcome. When Logan realizes she is everything worth fighting for and goes after her, Grace has to decide if she is willing to put all her love and trust in him again.I have to say at times I wanted to slap both Logan and Grace but I think that's what makes it such an amazing story. You become emotionally invested in these characters and want them to get their HEA.P.s. I loved the insight into all the characters lives that we get in the epilogue.

I was appalled at how the writers white washed the tremendous and regal history of Africa. The children’s book discusses HIV, AIDS, literacy rates, albinism, etc., it completely skips over the centuries of empires, kings, and queens that ruled Africa and its countries. I vehemently recommend against purchasing this book for children, adults, or anybody! I strongly suggest they hire a historian to asssit with the next country they choose to write about.

The book is simple but not to simple and definitely perfect for my child's kindergarten project! The book was beautifully written and illustrated and had fun and interesting facts we were able to discuss and learn as a family.

This looks to be a compilation of what the author has covered on his youtube channel and website. And as mentioned in another review - no link to them. The book is nice in that it puts all of the author's lessons and techniques into a single point of reference. I'm not 100% sure, but there just doesn't seem to be anything new here and therefore not worth the price I've paid for it, having already been through his youtube videos, and having purchased one of the authors training videos from his website a couple of years back. That very training video is now one of the projects in this book. I got to pay for it twice. Yay. The techniques covered here are addressed in many earlier publications. As an example - the FAD technique I first saw explained by Calvin Hollywood many years back, and also covered in Calvin's own video training is addressed in this book (and surely addressed earlier by someone else). At least he gives credit. No knock on the author and his talents, but I was (and still am) hoping for something new and perhaps a little more advanced. How many times are we going to see these same techniques and base level projects recycled with a new set of photos and a different author? I guess I'm just being a grump because I paid for the same info twice, lol.A more advanced photo compositing and photo manipulation publication that included some start to finish projects like this book sure would be nice. Any suggestions?If you haven't seen any of his videos, or been on Kelby's site, or gone through some other photo compositing books prior (Matt Kloskowski's comes to mind) - well then this is a good one to get started with. But if you have, my opinion is that you would have already seen these techniques and would therefore be disappointed.

This book has been an exercise in frustration due to several problems that could be overcome with a companion website that includes addendums and clarifications. Here are a few of the problems:1. With software companies like Adobe adopting the subscription model, their products are subject to continuous change. Features we've grown accustomed to finding in one place are suddenly tucked away in another menu or panel where we can't find them. Photoshop is famous for this, which the author of this book fails to take into account. For example, on page 4, he writes, "we can now go into Refine Edge to pick up all of those fine flyaway hairs. Click the Refine Edge button at the top of the screen in the Quick Selection options (Figure 1.7). The problem is, the Refine Edge button no longer exists at the top of the screen in Photoshop CC. I finally figured out how to access it, but then the very next step leads into a similarly frustrating issue... and so on.2. Dewis fails to explain the steps he gives to achieve a given objective, he simply lists the steps. In addition, he often pushes us off of a cliff into terminology and concepts that have not been introduced. I suppose he expects us to know this stuff, yet if we did, we wouldn't need his book.By far the biggest problem is that Dewis' instructions include Photoshop functionalities that don't exist or have changed between the version of Photoshop he used to write the book and the latest version from Adobe. For example, on page 14, step 7, he instructs us "in the options bar at the top of the screen, click the Brush Preset Picker icon and choose number 112, which looks like a tiny blade of grass..." The problem is, the brush presets aren't numbered, and one could spend hours looking through the presets trying to find out which brush he's referring to. In fact, I did a Google search on "Photoshop brush 112" and found that the brush is actually from a 3rd party brush presets package by Brusheezy - it isn't even included in the brush presets provided by Adobe in Photoshop - it just happened to be on the author's computer, and he leaves it to his readers to figure out where to find it and how to load it onto theirs.Several other reviewers have commented on the quality of the author's free YouTube videos - that they are better than the content of this book - and I have to agree. After struggling through the first exercise in the book, I followed his video on the same exercise and came away with a much quicker and clearer understanding of the process... he even included steps in the video that he (inadvertently?) left out of the book.These are just a few examples that I've run across where it becomes impossible to progress past an early step in one of this book's exercises. I've bought a lot of books through Amazon over the years, and I've come closer to returning this one than any other title I've ever bought - there's no excuse for this level of ambiguity in a book this expensive. Cut the book's price in half and provide a companion website with corrections and clarifications, then release a corrected 2nd edition... I feel ripped off.

An excellent workbook. It's not for the beginner but the information it contains is a trove of useful steps. Unlike many other tutorials and workbooks, this one really works. The steps are succinct and clear. And so are the illustrations. It is easy to follow as long as one a basic knowledge of Photoshop. I highly recommend it. It is kept right by my side all the time and I refer to it very frequently. Even though it may be a bit expensive but well worth the cost in my opinion

Helps to be familiar with Photoshop. This is a workbook, so expect to spend time to "learn" from the examples. Also, there are times that it helps to know where Glyn is going with his tutorial. Finally, sometimes you have to pay very close attention to the details in the example so you don't miss a step in the walk-through. With Photoshop, there is often more than one way to get the desired result. This book is five stars because Glyn shares some of his experiences and insights to get professional quality results; some are quite unique. If you are willing to spend the time with the workbook, you will become better and more confident with Photoshop.

This is a great book, and it has already taken my designing to the next level within the first few pages, I improved my cutouts! And not just that, it answered a lot of questions I had about how to achieve a certain technique that people either could not understand, did not know, or just did not want to tell me. So I indeed had those moments where I'd say to myself "ahh, so that's how its done!" The people complaining on this thread are just those who followed Glyn on YouTube, so they feel like these techniques were nothing new and the book isn't worth the buy. Although I followed, Glyn's YouTube channel I never did study all of his vids because I like to have instructions written out in front of me, and go along with whatever I'm being taught. Of course there were certain techs in this book im sure many people already knew, but however, these common techniques are essential to creating great composites in Photoshop, that everyone and especially newbies should know, in order to grow as a designer. I tip my hat to Glyn for this book and it is worth the money.
