Really. $3.00 would be overpriced. There is nothing specific here, just a bunch of air headed templates that will be quite ineffectual in helping me in my practice. Copy, cut and paste, and every protocol is the same. There is no real time or effort in creatively crafting protocols with specifics. $70 is a joke and a rip off. BTW, though it appears Francine Shapiro is personally behind the creation of ea. protocol in the book, not really the case; that's a bit of a stretch. I would say if there are any sharp EMDR clinicians out there, what is needed is a book that does what this one purports to do.

I'm new to EMDR, and recently completed the training in Hawaii. I felt the need for a reference book, and this is perfect. Some of the handouts are different from those given at my training (Trained under Roy Kiessling method), but scripts are very useful.

I have been an EMDR therapist for over 10 years and this book is a great addition to my collection. There are plenty of new things but the surprise was the "old stuff" - presented in a new fresh way. Very helpful. The layout is user friendly with larger print (thank you). Well done.

Very easy to put special circumstance cases into practical application using this book.

I am going to be very blunt and direct in my review of this book, so buckle up...The ONLY reason I bought the paperback rather than the kindle was to support the author because I know him and wanted to support him. Honestly, I did not have very high expectations but wanted to give it a chance because this novel is also in my favorite genre: historical fiction.Again, I really did not know what to expect, I thought that maybe I would partially enjoy this book. I happily admit that I was WRONG!!! I was hooked into this story from the onset, I immediately felt as if I were there with the protagonist, my mind's eye very quickly began the mental picture...no...movie... of everything as it played out... and this feeling lasted throughout the duration of this book. I quickly came to hate to antagonist and their band of flunkies...Mr. Davis' writing style is magnificent, the transitions between narrators within the chapters are flawless and the evolution between events have a natural flow that make this a very good read. He even went as far as to maintain the integrity of the era by using Latin terminology on some things. Have no fear, there is a glossary in the back that will interpret those words and terms into modern English. However, you won't use that for long because the style of writing will allow you to immediately know what is being talked about without having to flip to the back of the book.Furthermore, Mr. Davis uses his military experience and knowledge a great deal in the story where appropriate, which is phenomenal (I've read books where the author tries to emulate military life and all I can do is shake my head and think... "Nope"). The only regret I have about this book is that it ended, and it's an ending that leaves you thirsting for more... I look forward, with exuberance, to the next installment of this series.This young man is going places within the literary world.

This is an excellent book by a new author on the scene. I really enjoyed it. The people and world of ancient Rome really come alive in the pagers of this book. Before you know it, you are so immersed that you feel like you personally know each of the characters and find yourself living, laughing, hoping and crying with them. Did not want to put the book down once I had started reading it and can't wait for the next in the series!

Sublime. I felt like I was there, following these men and their lives. It was written in such a personal manner that I couldn't help but be drawn into the political intrigue, and the machinations of the Roman empire.I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.This book really does make me appreciate that I am not a politician! I don't think much has changed over the last few millennia!I loved that the author put a glossary at the back of the book, which I found particularly helpful.

Everyone who has read my reviews know that I enjoy books about Ancient Rome and the Roman Legions, but only if they are well written, This book I'm happy to say is not only well written but the story is well thought out and exciting. It is two a.m. as I post this. I just finished reading an excellent new novel by Vincent B. Davis II, a fresh, new talent with the ability to engage the reader completely, taking them back to a fascinating time in history, the Great Roman Empire. The title of the book is The Man With Two Names. I was amazed at the author's knowledge of the lifestyle of this long ago time, and his thorough research shines in the details encompassed throughout the book. Not a history lesson, but a very easily flowing story with characters of great depth. They demonstrate his understanding of a soldier's life, which is timeless, be it several years ago or several centuries ago. Morals tend to withstand the ages. I eagerly am awaiting his next novel.

Not only are they good for you, but they're tasty, too.Quintus and Lucius leave their home town, Nursia, to seek purpose in Rome. Quintus goes in hopes of finding a patron to send food to Nursia, and Lucius plans to join the army. What they discover is a complicated political climate that threatens their own goals, and they must choose who to swear fealty to.Vincent B. Davis II brought the Roman time period to life for the modern reader. He captured the realities and ideals of the army, and appropriately so, since he has served his country as well, which I found out in the author bio. However, in a few instances, the story pacing jarred me right off the page, but I climbed back into the story to find out what would happen. Overall, I enjoyed experiencing Rome through Quintus and Lucius.If you are intrigued by Roman history, The Man With Two Names is for you.

I actually felt the Rome of antiquity. Real life in a turbulent world of class domination and a place where courage, self-doubt and fear of not being able to realize ones' own destiny amidst power, greed and corruption are well detailed. All who are looking for a read that is both entertaining and has the feeling of realism and attention to historical fact NEED to get this book. Now.

The book is one I could not put down. It was done purely by excellent writing without recourse to violence. The war against the Germanic tribes only begins close to the end of the novel. I can't wait for the sequel.

I came across this book at Denver's Tattered Cover bookstore and quickly devoured it! I have no particular expertise in the subject, but a strong interest in Mesa Verde, Chaco canyon, etc. The author advocates using the Archaeology of the Southwest to build up a history (or prehistory, if you prefer) of the region, rather than just wallowing in mystery. If like me you are interested in this subject, you would like to read about what actually happened in the past, but have probably been frustrated by the reluctance of archaeologists to indicate any real sequence of events. Such conclusions that they come to are typically very vague or trivial. Of course, when you go back before written records, you can only utilize the physical remains to try to comprehend what happened, and some details will never be known for certain. But archaeologists need to try to work up a narrative story that is based on the evidence, and not abdicate this responsibility. Otherwise, new age crackpots and tribal mythologists will be the only ones controlling the historical/prehistorical narrative, and they have no commitment to scientific accuracy. That isn't exactly what Lekson says here, but pretty close . . .One of the strengths of the book is Lekson's years of experience in the field give him the knowledge and perspective to indicate why so many archaeologists do NOT want to do history, but he urges them on anyway. I'mbuying more books by Lekson soon!

Stephen Lekson provides new theories on Chaco Canyon and the people of Chaco Canyon. He exposes previous bias on the Pueblo People As usual when a new theory is put forth, the protectors of the old theory disagree. Excellent book. I highly recommend this book for Archaeologists and folks interested in the SW area's history. Steve states that this is his last book. I hope not. We need fresh thoughts.

My children love this book! They are never tired of the story. Great illustrations. The only suggestion is that it could be more sturdy. I brought several copies for my nieces and nephews. A great book!

Great short story to read aloud to introduce folktales!

I loved this story growing up, having heard it in a few different versions from my mom or others, and is only reason why this review isn't one-starred. When I saw this book at the library, naturally I got excited and opened it. The first thing I noticed were the terrible illustrations. It was basically a character on an almost blank sheet with no background. It was ugly, to put it plainly. I felt like I was reading some 5th grader's collage assignment that was carelessly done in 5 minutes. An adventure story about talking animals confronting Heaven's injustice and THIS is what they come up with for the illustrations? Seriously?My other issue with the story is that it is told differently, weakly. Differences are to be expected and even welcomed in the retellings of a classic story, but not if they don't make sense. Frog's companions are supposed to have definite strengths and weaknesses that counter everything Heaven throws at them. In this version of the story, the animals have no developed strengths nor weaknesses so that the final confrontation has no wittiness about it. No rhyme no reason, the animals just kinda fight and suddenly: The End. The writing style is very dry. -__-This book butchered everything I like about this story.

It was a legend unlike any other legends and had been passes down by generations. Every time that the people received rain, they remember the story about the toad which had said to be the uncle of heaven. A little ugly toad and dare to become uncle of anyone even the heaven ? How is this happened ? It was a long time ago and there is a drought in the land. The field become dry, every trees died, the animals had nothing to eat or drink for there is not a shingle drop of water. For days, the animals groan and complain but no one would do anything. This is when Toad step in and make up his mind to go to heaven and asked heaven the reason why... enough with me telling how it ended. Read this wonderful book and find out. You won't regret it and every time you see rain, you will know how it all happen.

It was spring of 1948, and a young man from Pennsylvania had to work out of his psyche the sights, sounds, and losses of World War II; he took a hike. For four months. On August 5 of that year, Earl Victor Shaffer became the first person to solo-hike uninterrupted the entire length of the Appalachian Trail, from Springer Mountain in Georgia through 13 other states to Katahdin in the central-Maine wilderness...on more than 2,000 miles of footpath created in the 1920s and '30s by volunteers and maintained by volunteers ever since. Earl Shaffer, a woodsman, naturalist, and poet who still lives close to the Trail, went on to become one of those volunteers as a leader of the Appalachian Trail Conference as it worked to secure federal protection for 'the A.T.,' now a unit of the national park system but still volunteer-managed. Written soon after the first of his two thru-hikes and including photographs from 1948, Walking with Spring chronicles Shaffer's adventures along a path that at the time was showing neglect of the war years and has since been rerouted significantly to its permanent locations. Enjoyed reading this book, because of lot of history into the trails beginnings, and how it was established. He has many black & white photos of the trail, view points, shelters etc. The stories he conveys, really lets the reader know how rural America was in 1947. You get this primarily thru the people he meets (country folks in cabins) city folk who don't know what they are doing (that hasn't changed.)He is a naturalist as well, and gives great descriptions of wildlife, and the destruction of our natural resources - even back then he was angry how our forests were (mis)managed He would turn over in his grave if he saw what 65 years have done.By todays' standards, his hiking gear would be considered grossly inept. It is wonder he made it all because his woeful 'equipment" , poorly marked trails, getting lost numerous times, and at times, bush-whacking the trail to get by.He hiked the trail to "Get the Army out of my system". He also lost his best friend fighting on Iwo Jima, which affected him profoundly, as he never married nor got very close to anyone.Getting resupplied was another obstacle he faced. The list of reasons why he should have never made it are endless. Even when he was done, and wanted get credited for it (and published) no one believed him. He was grilled for 3 1/2 hours by a major publisher to authenticate his 'story.btw .. he was also the FIRST person to hike the trail North to South!! And to top that off, on his 50th anniversary of his hike, he did it AGAIN.. at the age 79. His trail name was the "Crazy One". The guy is tough as nails and probably gargles with peanut butter!! Great Read.Thank you Earl!

. . . and your Patron Saint, if you are a thru-hiker, or aspire to be a thru-hiker, or a section hiker, or a one-time visitor who will never forget the experience.This one has a special place in my affections. If you only buy one account of an Appalachian Trail thru-hike, this has my most emphatic, enthusiastic recommendation. If you've made a list of many such accounts to consider, I make the identical recommendation for starting with this one. The original AT thru-hiker's original thru-hike, on a poorly maintained post-WWII trail in 1948, with a degree of solitude and perseverance that humbles the rest of us, or at least it should. And what Earl V. Shaffer's thru-hike accomplished for the trail, and for everyone who's hiked it since, cannot be measured.

Nowadays it seems like everyone who thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail has written a book. Actually even pretenders like Bill Bryson (who hiked something like a quarter of it) would also write one. Of course, thru-hiking the AT is no small feat, and I respect anyone who has honestly done it and those who left a written account. But Earl Shaffer's book is something in its own category.For one thing, as you undoubtedly already know, Earl Shaffer was the first person to hike the entire AT. This in itself is legendary -- before him, this was simply not known to be possible. His accomplishment has played a role in spreading the "trail fever" and inspired thousands would-be thru-hikers.But this is a review about the book, so let me get to the point. This is in fact a surprisingly well written book. Earl Shaffer is actually a gifted writer (too bad he was too busy wandering in the mountains to leave us many volumes, but I am grateful for even this one). His narrative is free-flowing, like the mountain stream; his account is succinct, never dragging or boring, and he had a good sense of humor. He even sprinkled the book with his poetry (now, I am not one who "gets" poetry so I won't comment on that). And apparently he is also a pretty competent photographer, as the many pictures in this book illustrate (and there is a DVD of a slideshow of his photographs; I need to check that out some time).I really think the book is a quite remarkable literary achievement in its own right, even if you don't take into consideration of his historical achievement. Of course, when you do take that into consideration, you will realize it is truly a must-read if you are into the outdoors, and especially if you are planning to, or even fantasizing of, thru-hiking the AT some day (I am not saying I am, but hey you never know).

This book was written from notes of Earl Shaffer who thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 1948. Having been born in the '40's, I can relate to some of the terminology he uses, and the graciousness he experiences from rural people along the way. It is an EXCELLENT book based on the year he walked it...and the fact that in that year, some of the trail was still being "mapped" out.. Having read more recent books of travel on the AT, it, like so many things, appears to have become more commercialized, and the experiences less taxing, as more restaurants, lodging, etc. has sprung up along the trail, catering to hikers. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!

I've read many books about hiking the AT, but this one is my favorite. Earl Shaffer was the first man to hike the entire AT in one season, from Georgia to Maine. He had only his army boots, a rucksack, a pot to cook in and a little money. He didn't even have a tent for most of his hike. This was decades before high-tech camping equipment, and I think the simplicity of his gear gave him more of a real feel for the trail than modern people experience.His writing style is laid back and humorous, and sprinkled with just the right amount of history as he wrote about the places he saw. I've hiked small portions of the AT, and can appreciate the many nights he camped in the cold and rain, and the huge mountains he crossed.What amazes me is that there are factions out there who doubt he actually walked the entire AT. His book includes some of the many photos he took of the shelters and vistas he saw along the way, and selections from a daily journal he kept during his voyage.Earl Shaffer was a tortured soul after his service in WWII, but his hike on the AT proves that spending time in the wilderness can heal and buoy up the spirit. This is a wonderful book, and a must-read for anyone who has ever thought about hiking the AT.
