Use a timer to ensure that each section is accurately clocked.As you complete each practice test, score it and thoroughly review the explanations for the questions you answered incorrectly; but don't review too much at one sitting. Concentrate on one problem area at a time by reviewing the question and explanation, and by studying our review until you are confident that you completely understand the material.Keep track of your scores and mark them on the scoring worksheet. By doing so, you will be able to gauge your progress and discover general weaknesses in particular sections. You should carefully study the review sections that cover your areas of difficulty, as this will build your skills in those areas.Test-Taking TipsYou may never have taken a standardized computer-based test like the CLEP College Algebra exam, but it's not hard to learn the things you need to know to be comfortable on test day.Know the format of the CBT. CLEP CBTs are not adaptive but rather fixed-length tests. In a sense, this makes them kin to the familiar paper-and-pencil exam in that you have the same flexibility to go back and review your work in each section. If you don't immediately see the correct answer among the choices, systematically scan the list and eliminate as many as you can by simple inspection. Confidently casting aside choices will help you isolate the correct response, or at least knock your choices down to just a few strong contenders. This approach has the added benefit of keeping you from getting sidetracked and distracted by what in fact may be just an occasional tricky question. Importantly, your score on a CLEP CBT is based only on the number of questions you answer correctly.Work quickly and steadily. You will have just 90 minutes to work on the 60 questions on the test, this means you will want to devote an average of 90 seconds to each question. So work quickly and steadily to avoid spending an inordinate amount of time on any one question. Taking our practice tests - which, again, have a few more questions than the actual test - will help you learn to budget your time wisely.Learn the directions and format for each section of the test. This will put extra time on your side that you can use to review your work on test day.Acquaint yourself with the CBT screen. Familiarize yourself with the CLEP CBT screen beforehand by logging on to the official College Board Website. Waiting until test day to see what the CBT screen looks like in the pretest tutorial risks injecting needless anxiety into your testing experience.Be sure that your answer registers before you go to the next item. Check the screen to see that your mouse-click causes the pointer to darken the proper oval. This takes far less effort than darkening an oval on paper, but don't lull yourself into taking less care!THE DAY OF THE EXAMPreparing for the CLEP CBTOn the day of the test, you should wake up early (after a decent night's rest, one would hope) and have a good breakfast. Dress comfortably so that you are not distracted by being too hot or too cold while taking the test. Plan to arrive at the test center early. This will allow you to collect your thoughts and relax before the test, and will also spare you the anxiety that comes with being late. No one will be allowed into the test session after the test has begun.Before you set out for the test center, make sure that you have your admission form, Social Security number, and a photo ID with your signature (e.g., driver's license, student identification card, or current alien registration card). You need proper ID to get into the test center.You may wear a watch to the test center, but it cannot make any noise, which could disturb your fellow test-takers. No computers, dictionaries, textbooks, notebooks, scrap paper, briefcases, or packages will be permitted; drinking, smoking, and eating are prohibited. The use of a scientific calculator (non-graphing, non-programmable) is allowed, though as we said, one will be provided for you online. I bought my book for the kindle and the first thing I noticed was that the book had not been edited/ revised since 2007 - so the content is 5 years old! It just came out on Kindle so I expected an updated version. Also, the book is full of typos and is missing parts of the test questions ( didn't transfer onto the e edition properly). Overall the ebook is poorly done and I am not sure how releavant the book is since it's 5 years old. I will take the test in 3 weeks and have mainly used Bob Miller's Accuplacer book for preparation, lots of practice there. I just bought CLEP College Algebra to get a feel for the test and see where I stand.

I purchased this book because it seems like the best source to prepare for the College Algebra CLEP test. You will need more study material to pass the actual CLEP test.This book contains many typos, which are confusing, to say the least. Also, the explanation sections for each provided test leave out important steps that lead to the answer. In basic terms, the language and process goes thusly: This gives you this and then you get this which equals this (whatever the answer may be). You have to figure out the missing steps. So, you will need to have a strong understanding of algebra to fill in the missing steps.There is a Math Review section, but it is not self-explanatory at all. Again, you'll need some previous algebra knowledge to learn the material. This section contains a lot of the typos. Equal signs are left out; numbers are transposed; wrong numbers are used in some equations.This book was not proofread well and it is not a reliable source to prepare anyone for the College Algebra CLEP test.

Getting ready for my last class for my degree.Many people were able to pass after using this book to study.

I bought this book. it is useful but not completely reliable. i think you still need the official CLEP Guide. you donn't need to buy the Official Guide, instead you can borrow one of the official guide books from your local public library. the 2010 to 2013 official guide books are mostly alike and one of them will satisfy your need. I have taken one Clep exam already. it is actually not very hard. the questions are mostly multiple choices. do not leave any question un-ansewred!

although it is outdated, it help a bit...I suggest other people to use it as an additional study material...

After hearing an interview with the author on NPR, I immediately ordered the book. You would kinda think that a book about organ donation would be obscure and dry. But as the author states in the acknowledgements, he learned from some of the similar best selling medical books to come out recently, and indeed he has. He's taken a relatively obscure subject and using deft narrative techniques, made the subject a page-turner. The first time he described (in detail) a surgical procedure, I had to speed read through it. By the end, I was re-reading these passages to make sure I understood what was going on. He covers the development of transplantation and dialysis which was as engrossing as the history of flight. He covers the pioneers with due reverence. In public service, he repeatedly puts donors, both alive and deceased, to the forefront as the true heroes, without whom he would have to find another line of work. I admit I have a bias as I am awaiting a kidney transplant, but well worth the read even if you are untouched by transplant issues. Essential reading if you are.

Just finished this book. I loved it! I am a fan of this genre and love first person accounts of surgeons doing surgery. Dr. Mizrich shares his wisdom and his heart in this well written book. Now off to read Dr. Starzl's Puzzle People...

I am a double-organ transplant recipient (Kidney pancreas). I saw an article about this book and was so moved, I ordered it right away. I am thrilled with what I’ve read so far. It has been written with such heart and such compassion. I am so excited to get through more, and will likely be up all night and longer to read this. I’ll update when I’m finished.

My son in law is a duck hunter. But he is not a big reader. I tried to find a book that would hold his interest and wasn't sure at first if he would be interested in the history of the duck stamp. When he opened this gift at Christmas I could tell this book was a winner!

I have never seen my husband so entralled by a book before. I can never get him to sit down for 5 seconds but on Christmas morning, he forgot the rest of his gifts and sat and read this book!
