A big disappointment. Most of the photos are black and white, which is a big negative for me. Also, for such a large book, a lot of the photos are small. Some are, for example, 1.5" x 2". The book does have floor plans, which I appreciate. It is a large book, but a lot of space is taken up by text in three languages and some pages have a lot of white space. It could have been so much better.

This book does a nice job laying out Neutra's houses over the years. The pictures could have been a little bigger, but I am not going to pick on that point. It is pretty complete in its breadth.What gets this volume only a 4 star review is the fact that Taschen chose to save money and instead of putting out three different volumes, (one English , one German, one French), they chose to put all three together in one volume!So what you have is a history which could have probably fit into half the amount of pages (and this is a monster volume) but instead is the size it is largely because there are 3 different accompanying texts for each and every building and house in the book. So imagine having a nice picture of one of Neutra's houses and then an English text describing it and then on the following page, two more texts in each accompanying language. This happens throughout the book and because of it I have taken out a star.I wish they would have pointed out this fact before I bought it.On the other hand, if you don't have this book and are a Neutra fan, you should probably buy it.

This book is huge and heavy and hard to hold, but is the ultimate collection of photos (mostly B/W) and descriptions of Neutra and his work. It's written in 3 languages, which means that a lot of the volume of the book (2/3 of the text) is wasted space, though the book is easily 50% photos. A detailed (roughly 15% of the book) nontechinical history, light bio, and analysis is included at the beginning, which is well written for a mass audience (ie, you dont need to be an architect to understand it). There is little to criticize. If you are reading the reviews for this book, that means you are looking for a book on Neutra specifically, and you aren't going to do much better than this.

If you like your books big and heavy, then this book will please you. It is definitely the biggest I've ever bought and putting it on a bookshelf is impossible. But what can you say about its contents. Thorough and complete. To have all of ones work in one book is ambitious, but when done properly, the result is a book which makes all others on the topic redundant. All of Neutra's projects are covered in this book in chronological order. From this you gain a greater perspective of his work, rather than the usual texts which show a few of his greatest hits and always leave you wanting more. One thing you gain from this book is how over a period of 40 or so years Neutra's basic design changed very little, yet was still appropriate to its time and setting. This book is a must have. Just watch your back, it is heavy!!

This is a great reference book for a fan of Richard Neutra's work. Every single built project is addressed. Most projects have narrative, pictures and floor plans. This book exceeded my expectations.

This book is awesome for a fan of 20th century architectural design. Even if you just enjoy good design, you'd appreciate the history and the photographs of this great master's work. The fact that the book is so oversized is a conversation piece in itself reflecting the treasure it holds inside. The cover is made out of actual hardwood, the text is written in English, German and French and most all the photographs are black and white. A true treasure for any collector.

I’ve always enjoyed watching Dancing With the Stars, and Derek and Julianne Hough have been my favorite dancers, so when I saw this book listed on Book Bub I purchased it. Derek recounts his childhood growing up in Utah, the only son in a family of 5 children. He started taking dancing lessons where his sisters went, and soon found his lifelong passion. When he was 11 he was invited to live in England with Mark Ballas and his parents, Shirley and Corky, where he went to school, continued with dance lessons and competed in ballroom dancing competitions, winning many trophies. He has also been a singer and actor and was the lead in the play Footloose in England; an interesting parallel is his sister Julianne played the lead in the remake of the movie Footloose. Derek is a multitalented performer as well as choreographer who excels in whatever he undertakes.

As soon as I started to read the sample, I was hooked! What a wonderful surprise to find out that Derek is not only an amazing dancer & choreographer ... he's quite an entertaining author as well! I literally read this book from cover to cover in a couple of hours. I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed the writing style & loved being able to discover what makes Derek tick. For such a young man, Derek clearly has his head together. He is a positive role model in so many ways. He is passionate & driven yet remains humble, patient, empathetic & kind. I know I speak for many of the DWTS audience when I say I think he's special but now I have even more respect & admiration for his many talents & accomplishments. This book is a truly delightful & entertaining read! If you are a fan of DWTS, you will absolutely love this book! :)

I just finished this amazing, very inspirational book by the incredible (and very handsome) Derek Hough! He talks of his life growing up, being bullied, competition dancing, growing as a person , and working with his dwts partners... but there's so much more then all that! I wanted to read this because I think Derek is amazing and I wanted to know more about him. You definitely know what makes him tick after reading all of it. He also writes Life Lessons after each chapter. You can tell he has it altogether and really knows how to work at life and make things positive! After that at the and of each chapter, ppl he either worked with or knows, write a lil about how they feel about Derek and what they learned from him. Reading this gives you a motivation boost! I highlighted a lot in this kindle addition, and I don't ever do that with books I read in the app, or books in general for that matter. I'd recommend this to anyone! I really loved it! Oh and the photos at the end of the book were fun :-) its him as a kid, some dance partners back then, his sisters and parents, and him closer to now. I also loved the Q&A at the very end of the book. They're all questions he is frequently asked. I can't say anything bad about this! It was great!

I did not know what to expect from one so young writing about his dancing life but this is a wonderful book written by a man who left nothing out. His trials & tribulations & the first time he told of how badly he had been bullied. His parents never knew but he was determined to make his life a positive & in my opinion he he can give those bullies a broad grin of "try it now"His book is more like a much older person wrote it as he is so driven even people twice his age do not have it. I never watched DWTS from the start but the first time I saw him I knew here again is a great entertainer. I expected him to just touch on his dancing but he told all...even his bad problems & even ends up doing some singing. He deserved every mirror ball he has and should get more. When I watched the Emmys when they announced the choreographers it happened so fast even Derek was shocked & I actually jumped up & down clapping & hollering I was so happy. By the way, jumping up and down isn't that safe at this time of my life but only would I have done it for Derek. He always emphasis turning the difficult into the easy. His personality is right out there and oh wouldn't I be happy to have one waltz with him...but a good old waltz of years ago not all the jumping around. Boy that would make my life complete. Do get this book & you will never be sorry...it is outstanding. There is so much more you will learn about Derek and I do not want to give it all away.

Derek Hough is an extremely talented person - I've watched him every season on DWTS as well as seen him in the DWTS live shows and in the Move tour. His dancing is mesmerizing to watch and his love of life is evident in all he does. He takes you on a journey through his life's experiences in his book, allowing you enough detail to feel like you actually know at least a part of what makes him tick and his life lessons are both attainable and inspiring. Derek Hough will continue to excel in all he does because he believes in himself! His honesty and positive approach to life are a breath of fresh air in a world of negativity.

I enjoy watching Dancing With The Stars where I first met this talented young man. I have admired his performance skills and his creative skills. I have always been curious about his background and family. I learned so much. Like many well trained Olympic athletes he did not live at home much of his life. He and his sister spent much of life with another family and spent grueling hours from the time he was a small boy dancing and dancing. He talks about his family life as a young child and the love he had from his parents. There is humor and sadness in his family, but it seems he was the one who pushed himself to become one of the world's greatest ballroom dancers in the world. The style of writing is very well done because he draws you in to understand how the family and his goals, as well as teachers of dance, developed his character. I was not let down in learning his life lessons and admire how much more remarkable his character is and what wonderful goals he set for himself as a person along his journey. He passes all those on in his book for the reader to see what is important in life and how he has tried to pass it all along.

This is a long standing work on mythology. The emphasis is on Greek and Roman tales, with a too brief discussion of Norse mythology. That some of the other reviewers mention it in the same breath as Bulfinch is testimony to the volume's value.The work features a nice introductory essay to "set up" the discussion of Greek and Roman myths. There is also a rather unsatisfying brief introduction to the underdeveloped section on Norse mythology.The first part features "The Gods, the Creation, and the Earliest Heroes." Here, Hamilton examines the array of gods, the stories of creation, and early heroes (such as Prometheus, Europa, and Polyphemus [hero??]). Part Two explores "Stories of Love and Adventure." In this segment, Hamilton considers Cupid and Psyche, and a series of tales of love (e.g., Pyramus and Thisbe, Orpheus and Eurydice, and so on). Also, the story of the Golden Fleece is retold.Part Three summarizes "The Great Heroes before the Trojan War," including renderings of Perseus, Theseus, and the great Hercules. Part Four, as one might have anticipated, looks at "The Heroes of the Trojan War." Hamilton spends time on a number of figures and stories, such as Paris, the fall of Troy, Odysseus' post-Troy adventures, and the travails of Aeneas.Part Five considers "Great Families of Mythology," such as the Houses of Atreus (think Agamemnon and Iphigenia), Thebes (Cadmus, Oedipus, Antigone), and Athens. There are some problems in coverage as noted, but, in the end, this is still a welcome volume.

Edith Hamilton's MYTHOLOGY, originally published in 1942, is one of two classic mythological summaries most readily available to us today. The other (and older of the two) is by Thomas Bulfinch; it was published in the early 19th century and is commonly called BULFINCH'S MYTHOLOGY (a merger of three works originally published separately as THE AGE OF FABLE, THE AGE OF CHIVALRY, and LEGENDS OF CHARLEMAGNE). Both authors present a summary overview of myths once widely taught but now generally neglected. Bulfinch is much more extensive and includes numerous legends not covered by Hamilton, but the coverage by both of the Greek and Roman myths (for which the two authors are most famous) makes for particularly interesting comparison. Some prefer Hamilton's treatment; others prefer Bulfinch's. I personally prefer Hamilton's consistent use of distinct Greek and Roman names rather than Bulfinch's frequent and occasionally confusing use of Roman names to identify Greek entities. But I generally enjoy Bulfinch's slightly old-fashioned style of storytelling over Hamilton's (though, all things considered, hers is quite fine). Hamilton's work is still under copyright, and it is published only by Little, Brown. Thus, it is more expensive than Bulfinch's which, being in the public domain, is easily obtainable online for free or in very inexpensive editions by numerous ebook publishers.Those who may own older paperback or hardcovered editions of Hamilton's work will discover the 2012 ebook replaces the magnificent artwork of Steele Savage with somewhat less majestic illustrations by Chris Wormell (though the list of illustration topics remains the same). The text remains unaltered, and the formatting is exquisite. There is an active TOC (here at the very end), but (disappointingly) no index in the ebook version. Overall, it is a very handsome ebook and a delight to read.It is hard to imagine retelling the great myths in a manner more concisely informative than rendered here by Hamilton. Critical reviewers who claim she is too difficult or too dry are certainly entitled to their opinions, but given the nature of the material and the purpose of this book, I would respectfully disagree with them. There is, of course, no substitute for reading the full-length originals from which these great tales have been culled and summarized, but this is by far a much more convenient way to initially encounter them; that is why this book has been (or, at least, once was) heavily used in public schools in conjunction with teaching these timeless stories.Edith Hamilton's MYTHOLOGY belongs in the personal library of every literate person as an introduction to, summary of, and/or reminder of these Greek, Roman, and Norse myths. But for added insights and additional myths, I would encourage readers of it to also obtain and read BULFINCH'S MYTHOLOGY.

I have to say, I'm disappointed I didn't discover Edith Hamilton sooner. I loved every moment of this book. It focuses mainly on Greek mythology, although there is a brief section on Norse mythology at the end. I appreciate that she lists her sources for each story at the beginning of the chapter and her telling of the these myths are easily read, but not over simplified and the result is highly enjoyable.

In grammar school I studied Greek mythology, and was mesmerized by the Odyssey and the Iliad. Soon other subjects came along that stole my attention. Fast-forward fifty years and I found myself curious to see if my old fascination and excitement about Greek mythology could be rekindled, and I once again I started slowly and tucked into Edith Hamilton's Mythology. I found this book to be as alive and vibrant as I remembered, but I'm thrilled to say that as an adult I appreciate it even more. It's mind-boggling that having been published in 1942, this is still one of the best interpretations around. One thing I hadn't remembered is that Ms. Hamilton's Mythology includes sections on Roman and Norse stories; I had no interest in them when I was younger and only middling interest in them now, but they're a happy find. This book stokes the imagination and invites further study of the subject. I bought the Kindle ebook and Kindle audiobook versions; both are outstanding. I wish I could give this more than 5 stars!

I liked this book a lot. It seems that it could just as easily be a (somewhat informal) textbook in a classroom setting or a desk-side companion for a kernel driver hacker. The exercises are very much a part of what makes this book so fun. The writing style and content are a welcomed departure from the standard into-tech-slopping or disjointed glitzy spin noise associated with so many other books these days.The content is very logically presented. It is straight-forward and solid. Every book has issues, but this one shines head and shoulders above the rest, IMO. While it naturally tends toward front-to-rear reading, it doesn't require it the way so many other books do. You can actually jump around rather free-spirited without the essential pre-reading dictated by those books that tell you in chapter one that what they just mentioned will be discussed later in chapter 8, but that [insert next 19 topics] won't be discussed until [add forward reference] because *then* something presented will start to make sense. What the heck?!Seriously, this book is a great book for someone who knows C programming and isn't still looking for the 'any' key on the keyboard. It is very focused on the core information and details of writing Linux drivers as kernel drivers and loadable modules. The examples and the exercises are worth the price of admission, but you get a "right-length" engaging conversational road-trip with the author for free.The cover art should tell you that this book is more about content and less about fluff, which is true. It is a pleasure to be able to recommend a book as fun to read as this one.

This book was required for one of my Computer Science classes. It does a good job at introducing all the kernel parts, but doesn't go into great detail about any one. It's good for people that are just getting into kernel programming, but I got though the class by using Google and other references that are already out there.

This book reads like a course outline used to teach a course. There are 35 chapters, most about 5 - 10 pages each. It begins by discussing driver issues, and devotes one long chapter (18 pages!) to character drivers. Then the book launches into virtually every kernel programming issue such as interrupts, timers, scheduling, ioctls, etc. Yes, these are useful topics for a device driver developer, but I have already seen most of these topics. The author seems to completely lose sight of the goal of this book: Writing Linux Device Drivers. Finally, in Chapter 24 the author gets back to device drivers and does provide 4 chapters on Network Drivers, and one on USB drivers. Block drivers aren't discussed until the very last chapter (9 pages including exercises).This book can be useful as an outline, a guide to direct your online research (read, Google). But I very much doubt that anyone could write a meaningful device driver using just this book. If you have access to this book, use it as a study guide. But I wouldn't recommend buying it.

If you want to quickly learn the basics of building LDD, then go for it. It has everything that you need, nothing that you want.I bought this book after reading through "Essential Linux Device Drivers" by Sreekrishnan Venkateswaran that has so much info but not structured or explained well and had me lost and confused about the basics.

Book has a bunch of very useful labs and exercises with solutions provided. One of the best introductory books to LDD

It focuses on what is most important, giving a good theoretical basis for those learning how write Linux device drivers.It is clear and easy to understand, really great!

Dr. Cooperstein,I just wanted to thank you for your excellent book (and lab solutions manual/code) "Writing Linux Device Drivers." I'm in the process of writing multiple kernel modules as part of my thesis, and I've been having a pretty rough time trying to use existing examples or other research given the significant changes in kernel code. Most of the other books I've found either skirt around the issues that seem clearly presented in your book...or they explain them only as clearly as the source code itself.Other books that do explain things well often present code that will not work with current linux kernels, and it is very tough for someone trying to learn the concepts to adapt obsolete source code...if I knew how to update the code, I wouldn't need to book in the first place. I think I can say this confidently, as I own just about every book about the linux kernel or linux kernel drivers from O'Reilly, Wrox, Novell, Prentice Hall, Addison Wesley, Osborne, and probably a couple I can't think of right now.Your book is not only well written (and timely for me), but both its content and sample code are directly usable in current linux kernels. I greatly appreciate the simple fact that all the driver code compiles cleanly; that is truly a unique feature at this time...and one that means a lot to someone trying to figure it out. If the online source code continues to be kept to-date with current kernels, your books will be an enduring asset!Thank you for publishing your books.

The History of Me is a awesome reference for kids and adults !. After I read The History of Me, I passed it on to my three oldest daughters. They LOVED IT!!!!! My girls were so surprised to know that there was so much more to there ancestry that they could be proud of. I even learned alot from reading the book myself. I will be giving copies of The History of Me to all of my daughters teachers this year. This book is a MUST read!!

I think this is an excellent read, I wish there was a way to give it more stars. The way the author is able to convey the history of African history to the child without being extremely graphic is a spectacular way to help parents teach their kids. I urge everyone to pick up this book!

Love these adult coloring books. Provides a creative outlet for adults and also it is an activity that I can share with my granddaughters when they are coloring and being creative. I thoroughly enjoy them.

There are 16 pages and 16 pictures printed on one side only in this coloring book. The pages are opaque type of parchment like paper and perforated so that I can easily tear them out if I wanted to frame them. LOL, Im not that impressed with my coloring ability that I would frame my work! The opaque paper though allows the light to shine through so that I can put it in the window for a stained glass type of effect. Which is a nice feature of this book that I wasn't expecting!!There are finished colored examples of almost all of the pictures helping those of us (me for sure) who tend to stress out over color choices. As you can see in my finished picture, I really messed up the sky when I tried to reproduce the beautiful sunset that was outside my window the night before. However, I do feel it would be pretty difficult to mess these up. These are easy to color for a beginner, although a talented artist can utilize their shading and color blending skills to create beautiful art.I used regular colored pencils, but think these would turn out best using those water color pencils. I may have to get a set of those.NOTE: I use a piece of white paper under the picture while coloring, due to the clear nature of the paper, the lines of the next page can be seen thru and makes coloring confusing.

I got many of these books in different themes and love coloring them. You can get really creative. I don't have an artist's talent, so I enjoy creating my own color combinations, although there are colored pictures of all of them on the covers so you can follow those or come up with your own. These aren't not kids coloring books! They are more detailed, and I use colored pencils on some, fine point gel pens on others and a wide range of felt tip colors on most. I usually do these in the evening when I need to wind down and they work wonders for me. Even without artistic talent, I love my renderings and plan on keeping the completed books to look at a few years from now or give some of them to an elderly friend who loves them when I finish coloring them. This book has transparencies so when colored they can be cut out and placed on a window and the result is very lovely.

I haven't used this yet because I was waiting on some markers to come in. The pictures are quite nice. I have water colors that I think will work with this kind of paper. From what I've been hearing and reading, pencils and pens are not the best medium for this kind of paper. Is it vellum? It reminds me of that. Whatever it is, it's good quality. But be prepared to get markers or water colors. I decided not to even try using pens or pencils after what I read because I didn't want to ruin the pages. So I've yet to color anything. But I would recommend this. The pictures are pretty and the sky's the limit on what you make it look like, and it seems to be of good quality. I've seen pictures on here of people's coloring, and the talent with just a set of pens or pencils, markers or water colors, amazes me. Get this. Give it a go. You won't know until you try!

I love these stained glass coloring books produced by Dover. The paper is a heavyweight vellum which the publisher says will accept markers and other wet media. I tried Inktense pencils on some of these drawings, and had minimal buckling as long as I didn't get the paper too wet. I recommend removing the page from the book (easy since the pages Re perforated) before using any wet media. Regular colored pencils also work extremely well.I would note that the color representations of Tiffany's actual art, while beautiful, are not accurate in all cases. If that matters to you I would recommend googling the images before you begin--there is a list of them provided in the front of the book.

Fun and very nice when used in a window to block prying eyes and still let in light. I made a panel using three coordinating pages and put them side by side using black plastic tape to mimic the edges of the coloring pages. Used in an upstairs window, one has to do a double take to determine their authenticity.

I tear the pictures out before coloring them. Using a sheet of blotter paper under the picture to more clearly see the colors. Putting the finished product on the window is amazing. I love stained glass, but don't have the room for a workshop to make it. Very nice results. Feel like I actually made something when it's done. Add the details and shading you desire. Works up quickly with brush pens.

I got this stained glass coloring book from Dover many many years ago, and my daughter and I had so much fun! Fun to color, and look totally gorgeous hung in a window. The paper is described as "translucent" ... which means it's not regular paper, but a special kind that is semi-opaque, so that it does in fact have a stained glass effect when held against the light or placed in sunny windows. It's especially good for watercolors, which themselves are translucent, so you really get a fabulous effect when you hang it in a window. Also, using watercolors at least (I can't say about other mediums), you can see the colors on both sides perfectly!
