I am so glad that I got over my own hangups with "sequels". When the author announced a second book, I was nervous because I adored the first book but I rarely enjoy most movie sequels. In short - I was truly stunned. This second book is not just "better" than the first one - it is TEN TIMES BETTER! The Bible passages chosen are extremely relevant and important discussion starters, the illustrations are provocative and challenging, but - I think the real genius of this series is found in the annotations in the back of the book.As a freelance writer myself, I am consistently amazed by Horus' ability to communicate complex arguments within such a limited number of words. In a single paragraph, he's often able to illuminate, argue, and frankly destroy common theological or apologetic arguments that have been passed on for centuries. He is also able to find a perfect balance between wit, wisdom, and skepticism without coming across as a "angry." (Though, given his past life in Christian ministry, it is great to read through some of his own struggles with losing his faith...)As far as specifics, I don't know if I have a favorite illustration yet. I laughed out loud at "More Than A Woman," I banged my hand on the table while reading, "I am Nothing Without Jesus," I grimaced at "Whore No More," and I openly wept reading "To Train A Child". Actually, one of my favorites is probably the modern day interpretation that opened the door for the commentary on the Pledge of Allegiance. It is all just brilliantly executed - from the illustration that makes you cock your head, to the essays that make you really think about the cultural context of these stories today.KID WARNING: There are a couple of illustrations (quoting Bible verses) that are fairly shocking, but - remember: this is NOT meant for kids!

This is a wonderful follow-up to Vol. 1.It perfectly crystallized the thoughts I had since childhood. These were thoughts I was often too scared to say (it was the 70's, after all) unless I was given no other choice in which case I wouldn't lie and just go along to get along.I wish I had someone else back then so I wouldn't have felt so isolated and alone with my non-conforming ideas.

Still way not for children. Well, maybe.I finished up the second volume of Awkward Moments (awkwardmomentsbible.com) and I must say it really was better than the first (If that is possible). The book tackled more complicated stories and issues and I really got the feeling that the authors passion went to a different level. Issues such as "The Ultimate Privilege of sacrifice", "The new Christian Holy War", "Under God in the classroom", "Burning the Trash" and one of my personal favorites "I am nothing with Jesus".Simply put this book is amazing! It tackles more of Biblical stories and really shows how ridiculous all these things are when put into a realistic perspective. The attitude of the author is not one of hatred or anger but instead just presents the facts and encourages the Christian (or anyone else) to objectively consider the historical facts and reason.I would encourage everyone to read it. Yes even children although depending on their background it could be rather shocking. I would especially put a challenge out there to all my Christian friends and anyone who has posted a "God is Love. Like if you agree" on Facebook. (Clearly God is not Love.) So come on all you Christians and "Christian Up" and put your big boy pants on and grab your favorite version of the Bible and try to get through this book with a critical thinking open mind. I really doubt you can do it, but I hope you can. You will be better for it and I won't tell your pastor. It will be our little secret .Horus Gilgamesh is a fun author to read. He has a strong background in historical religion and has lived in the ministry many years before writing this book. His insight is well thought out and he has a humble attitude toward delivering the material. He knows what he is talking about. BEST children's bible you can ever purchase. Nothing is sugar coated here (the way preachers' sugar coat the atrocities found in the bible) and the illustrations give you a better understanding of what the bible is ACTUALLY saying. Not everything is about interpretations and metaphors in the bible and this book shows you that. :) Definitely recommend if you would like an open-minded approach to the bible. It helps when you read for yourself and stop letting people TELL you what it says. If you're butthurt by what this book says, then maybe you should get rid of your cognitive dissonance. Like Bob Marley sang, "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds." ;)

The second volume in this series is just as engaging and thought provoking as the first. My favorite line is the one comparing evangelical missions to the crusades with swords being replaced by water bottles and expecting the same results. Everyone who is old enough to think critically should read the bible and other "holy" books. This book does a nice job of pointing out some of the more uncomfortable passages from the source that Christians who want a theocracy in the United States quote so often.

You'll either love the snarky pictures about Christianity or you will hate this steaming pile of blasphemy. As for me I love it. The cartoons are great and yet they point to legitimate Bible verses, which are sufficient to drive the religious right into an apoplectic state. After looking at the cartoons and reading the text I went to my handy-dandy Bible on my iPad and check the listed verses in several versions to confirm that the verses were legitimate, and they are. I actually suggested Christians read this so that they can be prepared to deal with horrible, awful atheists like me.

The underlying theme of this story involves geocaching, a more evolved type of scavenger hunt gaining popularity it seems all over the world. Her leading character, Frannie Shoemaker, is retired and with her husband Larry, explore various locations in their RV with a select group of friends. In this story, Frannie and company become involved when a dead body is found near one of their geocaching sites. With Frannie's natural curiosity and the proclivities of her friends, dangerous complications ensue. The evolvement of the story is organic and not contrived and the sense of crisis is sustained.I will say that the end of of the story ended more abruptly than I would have liked, but on balance this book is one I can highly recommend. I will always be waiting with great anticipation for the next offering from Karen Musser Nortman.

Frannie Shoemaker and her ex-cop husband Larry were camping for the weekend with their friends once again, and this time they were involved in the activity of geocaching in the area. Searching via clues on the net; setting the co-ordinates and heading out – it was a lot of fun. But the search for the four teenage mutant ninja turtles which were the focus of this cache had them heading once again into danger.The involvement of many of the locals in the fundraising events which were also on the same weekend meant there were many more people around. When the friends joined the fund-raising events they didn’t expect to be on the look-out for a killer – but the body in the direct vicinity had the list of suspects for the local sheriff quite long. Would Frannie’s amateur sleuthing create major problems for the friends this camping trip?To Cache a Killer by Karen Musser Nortman is another in the Frannie Shoemaker cosy mystery series, and quite enjoyable. Frannie finds herself in a load of trouble once again, all the while enjoying the concoctions of great foods each couple creates during the weekend. I’m thoroughly enjoying the series and highly recommend it.

My two favorite pastimes are reading and geocaching, so why not combine the two? To Cache a Killer is a thriller based around Frannie, an older woman who, along with her husband and friends, becomes involved in a murder in the campground where they are geocaching. Frannie insists on becoming involved with the investigation (picture Miss Marple with a GPS)..This was a fun little read, not too in-depth with the character development or storyline, but interesting nonetheless. This is the fifth book in the series, so the character background may be in earlier works. The story is a basic one, with just enough twists to keep the reader involved in the tale. This is not a future classic, but it is a decent break from reality for a little while..My Rating: 3.75/5 stars

I love this series, there are some things that I thought were a little goofy, like the husband not getting into the investigations as much as his wife. But I know when I'm done for hte day with my job I really don't want to do any more of it. LOL Other than that the stories in this series are pretty good. I'm amazed at how much can happen when they are out camping, since I camp pretty regular. But it is just stories. The areas that they go camping in are beautiful areas since I have been to most of them my self. ( well the places that she uses as background for her fictional campgrounds)

I found the book to be a bit like reading a children's book. After a few chapters I decided to put it down because it just didn't interest me. When the cop was sitting there discussing the crime scene and the murdered guy with total strangers and answering questions to people that should have been suspects, such as ' did he have any enemies' it was enough for me.I love geocaching so I was disappointed that it wasn't a better book.

While it is not the most exciting mystery series out there, I gave it a five star rating because it has a very original story line and a the characters are interesting. I would like to read more featuring this group.It didn't scream for proofreading, the subject matter was interesting, it kept me entertained, and I learned some things.

This is my favorite of the series so far. The familiar characters are like friends who happen to experience crazy mysteries while camping. I loved learning more about geocaching as Frannie discovers clues. There are lots of suspects. Get started reading today.

I have become a big sucker for this series. And I hope KM Nortman will keep them coming.... Since the next and last one (so far) in the series has a winter theme I will wait until Christmas time to read it - if I can hold off for so long...As always the mystery had plenty of suspects and twists and turns. It was also great to catch up with the camping gang again. So far I had no experience with or much knowledge of geocaching but it was interesting to learn about it and was a nice theme for the mystery. A highly recommended read.
